I tried to use Nokia N9 earphones (and other earphones by Nokia) with Jolla1, and they work properly only if the answer button it's kept pressed. If the button isn't kept pressed, the sound will be very very low.

Maybe, any trick? Any setting? Any fix in next SFOS releases?

The reason is a different pin configuration. Nokia used the standard pinout: Left, Right, Mic, Gnd (from the tip to the sleeve). Jolla decided to monkey after Apple (just like they did with the micro-SIM size, even though a standard SIM would fit comfortably). Their pinout is Left, Righr, Gnd, Mic. Pressing the button shortens the Mic to the Ground and the music plays as it should. Otherwise the current needs to flow from the Left or Right pin through the speaker AND the microphone to the groumd, which is not ideal.

I do not know if it is fixable in software. It might be, depending on the hardware used, but I doubt it. Your best option is either get different headphones or an OMTP/CTIA adapter.

Let's hope in kind of fixing :D

Searching for TRRS connection changing adapter might be tricky: try keywords like "headset adapter nokia" and so on. Anything changes the connection will be okay. One example is this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-3-5mm-4-Pole-Male-to-Female-Phone-Headset-Adapter-for-iPhone-Nokia-Samsung-/321938396095?hash=item4af50613bf:g:BcAAAOSwp5JWYD4O (I don't own this particular product btw)

This question came up in 2013 (as you don't care to search, me neither). The N9 Headphones are available as Lumia Headphones as well, with android/apple pin-configuration. I have both, the N9 and ordered the Lumia ones in 2014, they used to be cheap, now they are pretty expensive (at least on amazon). Don't ask me for the Product ID - find out what ID the N9's have then google it and find the "other" ID for the Lumia's that way.

PS there is no way of "fixing" anything here, some Nokia phones had intelligent Jack management for TV out and stuff and be also able to use any headphone pin-configuration, other manufacturers do not care that much about compatibility (with old stuff even less)

hey, thank you. I always search before, and I didn't find anything.

Well.. I know that jack was also used for TV out (it was very powerful!!!!!), and maybe, since we all have many Nokia earphones and other stuffs, I was asking myself if a solution will be found.. So, no "internal" solution? really?

Here and here for the N9 specific discussion, found with keywords from your title: "N9 earphones" ;)

Sthocs ( 2016-08-29 11:14:16 +0300 )edit

you can re-solder the jack and change gnd and mic wires. that's what i've done with my old N8 headphones. unfortunately, they broke (at a different part though) short time later

@till you cannot resolder the N9 earphone jacks, previous earphones are different. @palikao no, there is a switching device missing iirc

@Sthocs Sorry, didn't appear to me! I always look carefully. Maybe, that discussion started in a different way, and may not appear. Infact, if I search "N9 earphones" now here, the discussion you linked doesn't appear to me. The only discussion I see is this one.

Btw, ok.. I could use iPod earphones, let's try!
