Has anybody been able to use a macbook pro to send files, images etc via bluetooth to the sailfish phone?

I am trying to send using bluetooth 2.0 macbook pro 2011 to sailfish 2.0.3.14 and while pairing succeeds initially, follow on connections are not and sending files in either direction doesnt work because it says its Not Connected and suggests re-pairing the devices which i already did multiple times with no luck. I hate sending myself emails with files :-/ not to mention how insecure email is.

I have a Jolla 1 and a Mac Mini and I am able to transfer files to and fro between the two devices without issues. Make sure that in System Preferences > Sharing > Bluetooth Sharing is enabled.

What version of Mac OS are you using? I am on OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 ... I have opted to Show Bluetooth in the menu bar" and when I want to send a file, I click the Bluetooth icon on the menu bar and it shows me 'Jolla' in the menu, and from the 'Jolla' sub menu, I just click the 'Send File to Device' option. Works fine.

If you only want to transfer photos and videos, I have also used 'Image Capture' successfully (after connecting the Jolla to the Mac, through USB). The only thing is it is a pain to search for the photo and video you need, as it loads images from everywhere in Jolla (even from your mail).

sifartech it might be a hardware or driver fault on my macbook, so i don't think i can do anything at this point since you and other people have not had those issues. I am using BETA Sierra.

I'm also using a 2011 Macbook Pro and Bluetooth sharing works. It could also be a problem with your Mac Bluetooth module. Some ideas:

  • Remove both connected Bluetooth-devices from your Jolla and Mac and re-pair them again
  • 'Bluetooth Sharing' on macOS doesn't necessarily need to be activated as long as you only send files from your Mac to Jolla

You can also try to reset Bluetooth module on your Mac:

  1. Make sure you have the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar
  2. Hold down the Shift + Option (alt) key and click on the Bluetooth menu bar icon
  3. Chose Debug/Reset the Bluetooth module (this will disconnect also other devices)
  4. Reboot & setup connection to Jolla

A corrupt Bluetooth preference list can also cause those problems:

  1. Click Finder icon in Dock and in menu bar go to: Go/Go to Folder
  2. Enter /Library/Preferences and click "Go"
  3. Look for the file com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
  4. Drag it to the desktop (to create a backup copy) and remove the original file from Preference folder (needs admin password and will also remove other Bluetooth devices)
  5. Reboot Mac and re-pair Jolla

Alternatively you can use Android File Transfer to move files between Mac and Jolla via USB: https://together.jolla.com/question/282/usb-file-transfer-support-for-mac-os-x/?answer=145799#post-id-145799

caprico those where good possible solutions! i tried and applied them all except the Android File Transfer. Having repeatedly been unable to connect file transfer and applying your solutions unsuccessfully i am giving up on bluetooth (I also tried a USB bluetooth 4.1 dongle unsuccessfully - music streaming works just fine btw) .

Instead i found out that you can use SFTP with cyberduck to directly and over WIFI remote into your phone. Its fantastic and does what i wanted it to do.

@DarkTurin - Oh yeah, that's a great alternative too. I use FileZilla though ...
