Other half not installing properly

I factory reset my Jolla 1 recently and ever since, it's had problems installing TOHs. It'll ask to install from the store and then it'll appear in the Ambience swipe-from-the-top menu with a swirling circle. After a few minutes, it'll give up saying it couldn't be installed.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Also, not sure whether this is related, but I didn't want to follow the instructions here, as they are for a rather old version of Sailfish:

Before I managed to try that, I had switched the phone off at night with the circle still swirling (after an hour or so of fitting the TOH). In the morning, I turned the phone on and the TOH ambience was installed. I assume it managed to install it after the store came back online (see below), but somehow it only registered after the restart. I'll see if I can replicate it with another TOH.
