Jolla on ilmoittanut pyrkivänsä mm. Venäjän ja Intian markkinoille, Mutta olen pohdiskellut, että miten tällä hetkellä on Suomen laita. Onhan Sailfish -käyttöjärjestelmä kotimainen. Ymmärrän toki, kun täällä ei älypuhelimia valmisteta tällä hetkellä, joten Suomi on muuttunut hankalaksi maaperäksi - tai ainakin näin olen ymmärtänyt.

Hello!

I'm asking for news on how SailfishOS and Jolla are doing in Finland. :)

Jolla has announced going for Russian and Indian markets, but I have been wondering how are things in the Finnish market. After all, SailfishOS is a Finnish product. Neverthereless, I understand that Finland has become a difficult market, where no-one manufactures any relevant phones, or at least that's how I've understood the situation.

It would be great to know, how are things in Finland nowdays? For example, will the OysterSF devices become available here? How about the PuzzlePhone, will they be released as SailfishOS-phones? And so on...

To Jolla as a company: Surely you can give better answers than I can ask questions; you know the situation much better than we customers - and understandably you cannot tell everything. Still, I hope you could even scratch the surface on how your business is doing, since it has been so quiet in Finland related to the SailfishOS...

Hope the rest of your year 2016 is good and happy waiting for Xmas.

P.S. It's fine for everyone else to comment on the matter too, of course :)

Fairphone 2 is released but the lack of an official Sailfish OS port is a bit surprising. The new back cover seems to be a better match for a gesture-based user experience.

The first PuzzlePhone units will not be delivered in 2016. I hope to get one myself during 2017. Fingers crossed

There are no public news about the Oysters SF device at this time, as far as i know.

There are rumours about Sailfish OS devices from Huawei. None of the rumours have been confirmed at this time.

From my own point of view, the PuzzlePhone will come only with Android and without official support of Sailfish OS. As the Fairphone 2. The only "future" phone to come with Sailfish OS is the Oysters SF.

The Sony Xperia X with Sailfish OS was a bit of a surprise. Hopefully there will be (good) news on that project soon.

Oh how tempted I was to answer this in Swedish...

I don't really see how this should only concern Finland and thus not be written in English as the complete lack of SF devices affects the whole EU market (and indeed others too)

The creator of the thread limits his question to the Finnish market and in that context the choice of language makes sense.

Yes the entire european market craves new "native" devices. ...but the posted question asks for nothing else but the local Finnish situation.

Att besvara frågan på svenska skulle faktiskt komplettera spridningen av information till att även innefatta den svensktalande delen av den finska marknaden.

Currently, as of May 2017, there are above 10 different Sailfish OS devices from about 5 different vendors, not counting about 50 various community ports to various devices. Yesterday I've noticed Sailfish port aimed for Nexus7 or Nexus5, don't remember exactly.

As Sailfish OS contains by default Finnish national language version then Finnish market is quite strongly supported by any device or rather every device with Sailfish OS. It is only a question of your will and willing to do some efforts to buy a Sailfish device where it is available either a new one like Intex AquaFish or Sony Experia (however not yet ready but announced to be soon). You can ask your operator for a Sailfish device. Certainly it is not in every shop with mobiles, however still you can buy it in the net. This fish want to be haunted, so to say. Anyway Finish market I think is supported in maximum extend that can be achieved by Jolla which does not have its own distribution network.

From the fact above also implies that the best you can do is to keep asking+molesting an Finnish operator, or a mobile retailer, to have an Sailfish OS device in offer, until they will have one. The most epic story of all times is how Nokia is not listening to crowds begging for Sailfish OS device, so please: do not forget to keep asking+molesting the Nokia also, to have an Sailfish OS device in offer, until they will have one. As I know Oysters SF most probably you will be able to get via internet shop, I suppose form producer, when it will be in sell, now it is not.

So you see: the point of view depends on point of sitting, where one is sitting. Jolla supports Finnish version of Sailfish OS in all devices (hence Finish market ), customers ought to supports availability by demanding for introduce them to sell by resellers, operators, etc..

You know: life is life, not a dream. However, comparing to situation of N9 time and "platform that will be burning everything", comparing that to our current situation when our problem is "how to get it" instead "will I ever see it again" - it seems to be a bit better, how do you think?

Please note also: With full respect, but without English translation your question was simply not understood-able. You could rather write a mail to Jolla in Finnish. Traditionally this forum is in English as most users from all over the World use it and that makes communication much easier and what makes communication here possible as such at all. IMHO. In the same way my answer in any language that you are not able to understand would be senseless, even if that would use Assembler crossed with Latin, even when some may understand what I wanted to say. It is about common interface and shared protocols. IMHO.

Just visit jolla.com and you will see the list of all the officially supported SF OS devices and dealers where you can buy them. Also Sony devices with SF OS installed will be available latest end of June. This has been promised and no contradicting info has been published yet. Just follow the regular updates we get from Jolla and the community management.

you cant compare N9 to Jolla...N9 had a fully working os and was a beautiful device, whereas jolla's sailfish fails even in its core task: phone app is not workig as it should. im using jolla daily and there are just too many bugs: browser flickers, browser is awfully slow, phone app crashes and wont reboot until several tries...

Yes I can compare N9 and Jolla1 and I compare. First before anything else because Sailfish contains (simplifying) whole MeeGo except closed source Harmattan UI by Nokia. And it was not so ready as it was MeeGo instance. Both N9 (MeeGo) and Jolla (Sailfiosh) have fully working OSes. N9 was working better but in much more narrow frames of features/possibilities. And yes Sailfish has problems when those frames are more wider now. I think if we would compare N9 features and Jolla or current Sailfish features would appear all that are common works fine in both, and those which were added to Sailfish has its problems or bugs - yes there are bugs. Haven't noticed phone app crashes you have mentioned, but of course you may have those problems. N9 was supported by full Nokia MeeGo team and Intel's support, working full time and with corpo resources support etc.. Jolla is about 100 ppl on board and community which can b both precious cargo or balast and some unidentified sharks from various places trying to win their objectives, whatany they are, on the small company bill and cost. N9 was butchered even before arrival while Jolla although better or worse but has achieved over 10 different OEM devices and about 50 community ports in Sailfish portfolio. Besides phone app crashes there are some other software pieces which gives to users lots of fun and usability.

Finally there is a simple choice: either to stop doing anything because something is bugged, not working, crashes etc.etc. (the glass really is half-empty) or to accept we learn from those failures and going on further to make things better as good as only we can and as only we are able to et.etc. (the glass really is half-full). Constant self-depreciating leads to nowhere or to a mental depression. And one can drink only from half-full part of glass as the other half is empty. So this is a question of will either to keep trying or to keep dying (still die)? That is the question.
