If there is not enough brightness the device is not waking up on double tap. I suspect this is not intended behavior.

How to replicate: Double tap the screen in good light, it should wake up. Now cover the top right corner of the device where the sensor is located and double tap (or if you are in a dark room or in Finland, just double tap), the device is not waking up.

Anyone else with this problem?

you have to remember if you cover proximity sensor, which is located in the top right corner, double tap to wake up shouldn't work.

Why is that? Maybe there is a good reason for that, but I thought it was a bit odd.

When you can unlock phone by double tap you can do this by accident when you have a phone in your pocket. Turning of touch sensor when you cover proximity sensor protect you from this.

Well, you still need to swipe down or left (edit: or right) after that accidental double tap? I'm always using security key but I just tried it without and didn't see any problems with it.

@antlih: When you put the phone in to pocket / place the phone at ear during call -> capacitive touch from thigh / chin can occur & create "looks like a double tap" situations. To avoid these false positives, double tap events are ignored - and if possible, whole touch detection hw is powered off - when proximity sensor is covered.

If you really want to, you can keep double taps active even when p-sensor is covered by executing from command line:

mcetool --set-doubletap-wakeup=always

Back to default via:

mcetool --set-doubletap-wakeup=proximity

Please provide a hardware wake up if there is an issue with proximity sensor. I had the same issue I took the phone from my pocket from train to show the ticket then it wasn't unlocking .I removed my battery and restarted the phone to unlock it, and it caused couple of of minutes delay. Please re calibrate and fine tune the proximity sensor.

I wasn't covering the proximity sensor . So there is a problem with calibration / there is an issue in setting the doubletap to wakeup enabling

@Krishnan: Do note that by default power key can be used to wake up the device even if the p-sensor is covered -> if the device does not wake up with power key either, whatever the problem is, it is not proximity sensor related.

If you have dirt/grease/sweat on the glass, it can make the sensor report "covered" -> swiping the sensor area with cloth might help.

Also, there is a way to work around proximity sensor that is stuck to "covered" state. Pressing power key rapidly 3 times will make the device assume p-sensor is not covered until the sensor starts reporting state changes again. This is mostly useful for dealing incoming call / alarm situations (when power key press is used for muting the call / snoozing the alarm instead of display on/off control).

Thanks for the reply. The main problem is sweat coming from the face, due to hot and humid condition. It may be blocking the proximity(Though I'm doubting it).
