slashdot pages blank in browser [released]
Stories in Tidings RSS reader can be opened in the browser. Slashdot stories have page links such as
https://m.slashdot.org/story/326491
These display a blank screen. I think this is new - but I'm not certain.
They are also blank in the Tidings webview. Do they display in other browsers on Jolla? (I don't have any others installed.)
The entire website of slashdot is unloadable, by Sailfish Browser goes berserk, constantly trying to reload the page and never succeeding, all the while with a nice bright white rectangle to burn out your retinas!.....I don't use any other browsers on my device, I do most of my surfing on my laptop.
Spam Hunter ( 2017-05-21 17:31:50 +0200 )editI noticed the blank Slashdot pages in the last week. Seems to have started with a Slashdot update -- possibly the launch of a mobile version. Previously the desktop version loaded successfully in the Sailfish browser on my Jolla 1. Mobile Slashdot does display in Chrome on the same device.
philomite ( 2017-05-21 18:48:44 +0200 )editThe URL of the non-mobile site is without the m. Unfortunately slashdot seems to sniff the UAS, or the viewport size, and serve the mobile version. The browser needs a 'request desktop site' option like Firefox.
The mobile version works in Fx for iOS on wife's iPad. So this looks like a bug in the browser to me.
DaveRo ( 2017-05-21 19:09:24 +0200 )editThis was a user-agent issue back then when fixing. Added a small note to the https://sailfishos.org/wiki/Sailfish_OS_Cheat_Sheet#Debugging_User-Agent_problems regarding this kind of issue if there are people who'd like to contribute.
