Damn bad time, together with the Xperia X... Big cash drain this month.

XPERIA X will need some time. There is no reason to buy it this month ;-)

Apart from the fact that I ordered it today (and moreover I need a phone with a good snapper).

@Giacomo Di Giacomo you can still cancel the order then ;)

I never wanted the original Jolla tablet, and I don't want this one - or any tablet, for that matter. But regardless, any new device running Sailfish is cause for celebration - and what chenliangchen has done is commendable and impressive.

...and perhaps there is an option to purchase it still after the IGG-campaign! Looking forward to receive the backed red version tablet!!!

A way to purchase after the IGG campaign would be nice, especially if it was possible to pay without a credit card...

null ( 2017-07-08 17:40:08 +0300 )edit

why should they take the risk and produce more ?

surprised that only 300 did took a perk , jolla tablet.made 2 mio = 10.000 pieces.

Frankly, I also hoped that there would be more interest in the tablet - and thus in sailfish. On the other hand I myself just have to figure out a usecase for a tablet. Anyway, I am looking forward to play around with the Youyota tablet.

@jolla what happend with all the lastu cases you got but never delivered? Any way to ship it to backers for free since both cases and shipping cost was paid and it wont fit any other tablet?

Really? This time, In addition to being tiresome as always, you're also greedy.

Greedy? The cases can't be used by Jolla for any other tablet. So why keep it?

In addition to that, luckly, I didn't order a case and have not backed this campaign since I'm in full boycott of all things sailfish until Jolla refund its backers and supporters. So personally I don't want a case.

But I do care about community members and regular users and they could use the cases rather than Jolla keeping it in a warehouse somewhere.

and jolla has what to do with youyota exactly?

Nothing as far as I know, except that Jolla take royalties/licenses for sailfish while Team Chen do all the hard hard work. If the campaign was on the limit to reach the amount required I could have done an exception, but luckly the campaign seems to reach the goal easily.

Please open a separate question for this, it's a valid question but is unrelated to the Youyota tablet.

According to the specs listed on the wikipedia page, the processor being used is the Intel Atom Z3735F.

This seems to be a 2014 (Bay Trail) processor. Why are they using such an old chipset?

This makes this project quite easy to realize, because the original Jolla Tablet had the same hardware. Which means it needs generally no software changes, despite the fact that they try to fix some things which don't work that well on the original Jolla tablet.

For more information on the project, read this: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=99214

It is exactly the same HW.

They had the original design, parts lists and moulds that were used with the original Jolla tablet. They didn't have to design a new device, just ensure that all parts were still available before starting production again. So the device is virtually identical.

This is why I love the concept of the Youyota tablet and immediately ordered the 64GB model.

As it is exactly same HW as the Jolla tablet I had previously, I know what to expect and there are no surprises :)

OK 2014 but spec for this type of device is actually ok. With the low overhead of sailfish it will be interesting. I also ordered one. Hopefully we can have it better optimised for power - which actually a number of devices need.

It will be necessary with about a 100 more backers for production start. I wish the product developer/sellet good luck. More devices needed.

A comment did not bump this thread for the last three days one can order a Youyota tablet (technically identical to the original Jolla tablet). So maybe an answer will.

Really really sad it got no HW upgrade (CPU,RAM) for this price!

Reading the thread at TMO (linked above in the question) helps understanding, why this was the most reasonable decision. For me, this is a reliable way without any software hick ups to be expected. And for SFOS is a working mid range tablet IMHO more helpful than a high end one. Of course, better hardware would be appreciated, but the Jolla1 showed that you don't need high end specs for a fast and smooth UI.

silmoc ( 2017-07-09 20:25:16 +0300 )edit

It also ensures there will be no surprises regarding hardware support, everything is already known by Jolla and is supported out of the box. Designing something new (or even altering an existing design) is risky. More RAM is not possible because of the CPU, and a newer CPU needs even more design work (new PCB), and this is not feasible for such a small project. The only easy CPU-upgrade would probably be the Z3736F, and this just adds a little bit more turbo frequency (the benchmark-result I found show no significant difference to the Z3735F).

How else would they be able to sell a tablet at such a price with full software support and a minimal funding goal of just 10% compared to the original tablet??

Cmdr_Zod ( 2017-07-10 03:35:21 +0300 )edit

Everyone would like to have a high end tablet. But there are some parts left from the Jolla tablets and I think it is good for the environment to use them. Besides that: an ipad mini 4 has 2 RAM too!

If you want a real Jolla Tablet NOW without any risk, get in touch with me. After some nice time with it, I am happy to pass it on to share the experience :-) Original packaging and it looks like new. Located in Switzerland. EUR 150 (incl. EU shipping).

I would buy it for your original price of 100 Eur + shipping (Germany).

@Holger: Sorry it's already on the way to Italy.

nilOlin ( 2017-07-19 11:01:30 +0300 )edit

The Youyota tablet has bluetooth 4, while the Jolla tablet had 3. That makes an important difference to me. I also wonder while there were not many more backers and it worries me a little bit. The future of Sailfish depends on its users and the tablet is an opportunity to expand, besides the Xperia. I hope people are not frightened off by the history of Jolla.
