Mobile network connects, but no packets pass [answered]

Since a few days I cannot go online over GSM. The symptoms are as follows:

Jolla connects to GSM (2G only, because I am in the US; using TPO, which is a t-mobile reseller). The “Internet connectivity” symbol is on. Via the terminal I see that I was assigned an IP address and a default gateway. But no packets are actually transmitted; I cannot even ping 8.8.8.8 or the gateway.

I tried removing /var/lib/connman/mobile_* and /var/lib/ofono to reset the settings, but that did not help.

Any ideas?
