Jolla-Maps / Here.com: Same provider, different data!? Outdated on Jolla..
Hello! I really like HERE maps, but to me it seems the Jolla maps app which claims to use HEREs' map data has outdated map data.
Please compare these 2 screenshots taken from within the app and from here.com, see the difference? Why is that? (Btw the Jade-Weser-Port not shown in jolla-maps exists since 2012)
- How is the map database updated (in the app, via app updates or via SailfishOS updates)?
- Is the map data loaded directly from HERE server or via Jolla's server?
- If not directly from HERE, how often the database is updated?
hmm, which map data uses the Nokia N9 Maps app? I don't have mine anymore, but if i remember correctly this same area wasn't there either. Perhaps someone could check this? If both the N9 and the jolla app have the same outdated data, one could speculate that HERE somehow filters it's sent data by client...
A very interesting and important finding, thanks. I'd like you to add these to your question:
- How is the map database updated (in the app, via app updates or via SailfishOS updates)?
- Is the map data loaded directly from HERE server or via Jolla's server?
- If not directly from HERE, how often the database is updated?
simo ( 2014-01-18 09:18:10 +0200 )editI've noticed some pecualirities in Jolla's HERE: 1) Before you zoom in, smaller places are shown before "Rovaniemi" in Lapland. 2) In Vadsø (Norway), you have to zoom in really close to see "Vadsø Kirkegård". 3) In Norway & Sweden, green areas outside cities are missing when you zoom in.
hana ( 2014-01-18 12:34:28 +0200 )edit@simo thx, added your proposed refined questions @hana i noticed this too, unimportant (smaller) places sometimes shown before more important (bigger) ones as you could easily see in screenshots: Wilhelmshaven is the town, everything else just parts of it. Perhaps this is just a font sizing problem?
mgbler ( 2014-01-18 16:16:16 +0200 )editIt's really not a good publicity for HERE...
TellienInTouch ( 2014-01-19 11:09:39 +0200 )editApple too had a few issues with its Map offering.
There is always Open Street Map - http://www.openstreetmap.org
