I hope this does not come across as a dual post but i was wondering if it would be possible to add options to add your own custom accounts which can be integrated into the people and messaging applications just like the facebook messaging option.

i was just hoping this would then allow for the option to add skype names and use skype (aware of licensing issues but just a suggestion)

A similar idea for both BBM and Whatsapp accounts where by adding your account details will add contacts to the people application (perhaps pre link too) and allow you to use the account within your messages.

complete integration would be quite nice as it stops the need to move between applications to have a conversation with a few people...

Thanks :D

This should definitely be open. Androids account management is pretty okay, but can be done better here and there, e.g. with messaging, and that's what you suggested.

Sailfish supports XMPP. A way to achieve what you describe is to have a XMPP gateway to other messenging services server side: Use a XMPP server (or install your own) that has those gateways installed. This way, you will see all your contacts on different messenging services via XMPP on your Jolla. I'm doing it for whatsapp, it is working very well, now I can use whatsapp on Jolla using the classic SMS app.

Here are some projects of interest to achieve that with Whatsapp:

Is there anyway to do this on the phone itself? So use the phone as the XMPP server with the gateways? I would like to use the native messenger app for whatsapp.
