This poll is about bringing different ideas, how to camera app usability could be improved in future. There are already quite a lot of improvement ideas when it comes to certain feature requests on camera. However if all these improvements are to be included, some kind of organizing on features is going to be needed. Overall usability should stay good whether it is a normal user or an "expert" user. If you have idea for a "layout" how these features could be accessed easily edit any free slot available to present your own idea.

If you are new here and want to learn more about polling here in Together, see this first: https://together.jolla.com/question/16697/together-howto-polling-in-together/

There will be several wiki post answers here that you are free to vote and if you have an own idea how to organize the camera app better in future feel free to post your own idea here.

Please do not add individual camera feature requests in this issue. If you have a request for certain camera features, first make a search for it and then make your own issue for it if no duplicates are present.

Please do not comment below options to keep the voting area clear and easy to use for all users. There is a separate answer box(es) where these can be discussed.

All posts in this issue are wiki posts and therefore no karma is rewarded for voted idea. Up to 5-6 "good" larger proposals are allowed to prevent too many options to be available.

You are free to vote now for current suggestions, there are still free slots so more good proposals are welcome here.

@TimTTK: please ensure you have a limited amount of entries for your poll so it remains easy to vote ;)

@eric, yes I plan to get here at least three ideas for a start and if more ideas appear, maybe 5-6 might be enough to get a good poll here.

@TimTTK: ok good, thank you! I was referring to: https://together.jolla.com/question/6946/ where too many options on multiple pages are not easy to deal with...

Option 2: A fully customizable camera menu. A basic choice of features (= the camera menu as now) is offered by fabric settings. All existing and future features are listed in settings-applications-camera, where they can be enabled or disabled. Enabled features show in the camera menu, disabled features disappear from it.

(Quick access between camera app and settings-applications-camera in both ways would be very welcome.)

Without the need to draw a line between basic and advanced, this option would invite anybody to just use the camera the way she/he likes (including the choice to ignore anything but the standard camera menu).

Option 1: "Basic" and "Advanced" modes to select between preferred setting mode. These modes could be changed from settings-applications-camera. "Basic" mode will be a preselected setting to "average" users for easy usability and with a few added features. "Advanced" will be for experienced users allowing to use all extra camera features and settings available. "Advanced" mode also allows to tweak the camera menu and options seen there.

More info under this issue: https://together.jolla.com/question/12638/camera-settings-divided-into-basic-and-advanced/ If you like this idea you can vote this.

if you have an idea you can edit and change content in this box to post your own "whole idea"

TimTTK ( 2014-01-24 18:52:41 +0200 )edit

can't find how to do this :(

droll ( 2014-01-25 03:08:04 +0200 )edit

There should be "edit" option visible in this answer above. If you have more than 75 karma you should be able to modify content in this box.

Option 4:

Include an option in settings for quick access to the camera by double pressing one of the physical buttons or by double tapping a user-defined area on the black standby screen.

Example:
(phone is in standby)

  1. Double-Tap 80% of the top black area = unlock phone

  2. Double-Tap 20% of the lower black area = open camera

Is this technically possible?

@yoktobit put this option under "Option 4" by editing option 4 answer, I'll give you 1 upvote so you get 10 karma points and thereby you are able to edit wiki posts.

TimTTK ( 2014-02-03 14:08:37 +0200 )edit

Mh, am I doing something wrong? My "status" bar says "karma: 81", but Option 4 has no Edit-Button, it only shows "This post is a wiki. Anyone with karma >75 is welcome to improve it." with buttons "Flag offensive" and "Link"

yoktobit ( 2014-02-03 14:17:33 +0200 )edit

@yoktobit "Option 4" should be editable to everyone with enough karma (>75). @eric , @simo is this perhaps a bug in askbot since every with >75 karma should be able to edit wiki posts?

TimTTK ( 2014-02-03 14:23:20 +0200 )edit

@yoktobit alternatively you can rename your own answer to "option 4" and I will delete mine, but convert it to wiki post after that Edit: Thanks :)

TimTTK ( 2014-02-03 14:31:39 +0200 )edit

OK, done. Maybe the bug in askbot is some caching problem? The change from 7 to 4 wasn't displayed in my browser until I restarted it. Even a few "Refresh Page"s didn't help. But Edit-Buttons are still not shown under community wikis.

Option 5: I liked the Fcam http://fcam.garage.maemo.org/index.html interface and features for the n900 very much. Something like that for SailfishOS would be nice. Suggestion By @max

Option 3: I'd like to suggest middle ground feature set, like the basic mode with a minimal collection controls available at first glance but the ability to explode a control or feature to get at advanced expressive and related, feature specific controls. Not quite as complicated as the advanced mode but as clean and simple as the basic mode. (original proposal by @dies_felices)

A possibility to crop your images both predefined formats, but most of all a free range size, (just like on the N9)

three options currently available, but more would be appreciated so that a good poll would be possible. There are still three free slots and if more good suggestions come even couple more could be added.

I wonder about an option for panoramic views. I feel it's not the subject here :/

TNZ ( 2014-01-30 15:05:44 +0200 )edit

There is an issue regarding panorama pictures here: https://together.jolla.com/question/4091/panorama-pictures-for-camera-app/. This improvement issue was established to compare different "layouts" to improve camera usability. Not actually presenting missing camera features. But if you have an missing camera feature on mind you can post own issue for it unless there are no duplicates present.

Option 7: Slow motion option for camera , video & foto edition directly from camera menu, and "photosphere" like option using phone gyroscope.
