I am also interested in knowing if there has been any more clarity on how long Sailfish X will be supported, and whether we will be charged for future updates etc. ...

The easiest way is to go to shop.jolla.com and "order" one copy of SFX. Before you check out you can read all the terms and the legal stuff. But AFAIR nothing is stated whatsoever how long it will be supported and how high future update plans will be charged.

That's a good idea. However, there is another terms and conditions you have to agree to when you install Sailfish ...
