Journalist seeking Sailfish X tech support in Berlin
Hi there
I'm a Berlin-based journalist, having written about Sailfish in the past and am hoping to write about Sailfish X. I have bought an Xperia X and downloaded the Sailfish X package. Either the instructions are unclear or I have over-estimated my technical skills, but I am having difficulty unlocking the phone and getting the Sailfish operating system on the phone.
I have spent a few hours on this, have read countless help pages and now haven't the time to fiddle around with this any longer. Is there is anyone out there who can walk me through the process - preferably in person in Berlin? I have tried on Windows and on Linux, and am now too tired to try it on my Mac.
Thanks again for your help.
Oh man, thanks for supporting sfos. I am saddened to hear about your experience so far. There is a berlin based sfos usergroup of which someone might be able to help. Going to ping some members and see if someone is answering.

mosen ( 2017-12-12 01:42:52 +0200 )editThanks for your reply. Yes, I figured the hard work was getting the machine ready to flash But I am getting lost in circles within circles. First Sony's Emma tool. Then Google's Android ASK manager. Then I am told I need to get Java up and running.
I got to the command line with the unlock code but it hanged while waiting for the device. I'm not a command line person so I'm way out of my comfort zone. But I did try. ;-)
P.S. I loved the original Sailfish on the Jolla phone, but the device spec was getting old even when I tried it. Here's a link (Sailfish is at the bottom: https://www.irishtimes.com/business/technology/de-google-your-life-it-s-worth-the-hassle-if-you-value-your-privacy-1.2211355)
dscally ( 2017-12-12 01:52:54 +0200 )editessentially it is easiest to use a linux or mac to flash android related things in my experience. I did not try myself but read all over the forums that it was pita to set up windows drivers and get the cli commands done reliably even for long time users. The official jolla instuctions for linux work perfectly if followed exactly. But i can totally understand you are fatigued :D Hopefully someone in berlin can help as i would love to read your thoughts about the running device!
mosen ( 2017-12-12 02:11:12 +0200 )editIf you do not find anyone in berlin maybe i can halp via a remote conection (like TeamViewer). I flshed it the first time on Saturday and everything went fine. i also live in germany, so if you prefer German as languge i could offer that aswell.
