A newbie's first month with Xperia X [feature request] [duplicate]

I don't agree. This post offers more than the individual requests: it offers an all-round experience from a new user, who can tell differences with mainstream OSs, and related limitations, much better than people who have been using the system for three years and are used to its shortcomings and/or have developed workarounds. This is very important feedback for Jolla.

Dear SFOS friends, if I may briefly engage myself on this subject: I think we should bring a little more mutual understanding and start to de-escalate.

Personally, I am also quite new here, perhaps I have a deeper overall understanding of such projects as @Loenneberga, but I can certainly understand his concerns, and as @Giacomo Di Giacomo mentioned above, one can basically consider his statements as a barefaced report of a common user (no, not the common SFOS standard hardcore user) and therefore rank and treat them accordingly and also try to extract some benefits.
On the other hand, you, dear @Loenneberga, should also understand, that such a project like this one is not being pushed along by a company with thousands of employees and almost unlimited financial resources, but that in this case some smaller buns will be baked and that, fortunately, the community is playing an important role - Openrepos is an essential part of this community work.
Nothing is nowadays absolutely safe, as you can hear over and over again - not in a Play Store, nor the Apple Store. You may need to check a bit more before installing something here from some sources outside the Jolla Store, but the community certainly has strong and trustworthy mechanisms of self-control. You should also understand and/or accept that there are often no out-of-the-box solutions around, at least not at the beginning. As far as I can appraise, CARDDAV/CALDAV is currently under development and it would be more than worthwhile to get involved there in order to improve the maturity of the solution, but also to maybe obtain a temporary workaround for the problems that you are facing. All this basic understanding is something you simply have to bring up, otherwise it might be end up as a very frustrating experience for you.

Let's be more constructive and less destructive. It is so much more fun!

Actually he is quite happy with the system, he accepts the limitations, but the issue he got was a serious one and needs solving. Sometimes I, who have been using SFOS for 3 years, can barely stop from throwing my Xperia X against the wall when I see the camera unable to focus, or the network being not available from I don't know how much time, or not being able to use the phone handsfree because the call volume on the speaker is for unknown reasons too low to be usable.

@JMLatJolla@Giacomo Di Giacomo That's right, I like SFOS, but I also like to point out that there are not only "hardcore" users as you say correctly, but also "common" ones. This thread might be helpful for them, especially because I'm not trying to be to negative even when criticizing. I also understand that Openrepos might be or should be understood as a part of the project, but those "common" users will hardly be able to evaluate more complex rpms. In the meantime I found out how to add search engines myself and I installed them, because the code lines where quite simple.

I just closed the "question" myself so that @nthn who apparently takes himself for a moderator or administrator but didn't contribute anything here in this thread will possibly stop bothering me. As I found out this won't stop anyone from giving input or leaving comments. I can live with this.

I send a message to Jolla support on the Carddav issue and I will also add this issue to another existing thread, because I cannot exclude that it's an issue related to the Carddav provider. Thank you.

That's the right and rewarding way, @Loenneberga: to take things into your own hands proactively (that's a privilege) and at the same time plunge into and learn constantly new things. I believe that this is an important and valuable element of such an environment.
But I also think it is extremely important to set the right expectations. When SFOSX was announced, I took a quick look at the whole thing: the installation process, the problems commented on in the forums, and since Bluetooth should not even be supported natively at the beginning, I'd immediately put the matter to rest. Short time later, however, I saw that Bluetooth was indeed available and I decided to spend a little less than 300 € on the SFOSX & SXX package, a product that neither could shed tears in my eyes with stunning hardware specifications, nor seemed to be ripe for the mass market - and, to be fair, has never been praised as such. I was aware of all this and also that although it is SFOS V2.1.3.7, it is the first release on a new platform (SFOSX), probably not even at the maturity level of a 1.0 version, but 0.8 or at most 0.9... You should simply adapt to this fact and try to develop mitigation strategies for existing flaws and at the same time engage for a long-term solution.
Personally, the device is a lot of fun for me, although some of the drawbacks are really blatant, but so far I have always found a way to bypass them more or less elegantly. And as I said before, you have to get involved in the areas of your interest and make a strong advocacy with good arguments for a sustainable solution - just as you are doing now - that's the extra mile to go on such type of projects. :)
