Pull-direction of cover-action [not relevant]
I suspect that Jolla engineers have already discussed & decided how this works, but...
For me, the direction that I have to pull an application cover, to activate its cover-actions, is not logical.
For example, just looking at the Phone app cover, it has a number keypad on the left. So, to my mind, I would expect that I need to swipe my finger to the left.
But it works the other way around. So I find I keep on activating the wrong cover action.
Can this not be changed? (I guess it would affect a lot of people!) Or maybe we can have setting for this behaviour?
Exactly same thoughts here. :-)

-> you pull from the icon out of the screen/cover
if i think of it this way it makes sense (and helps the muscle memory) as it is the same as confirming or canceling actions within apps

However, as it stands, the UI already indicates clearly which one is about to be selected, so the logic is easy to learn. Moreover, I definitely think it's too late to change - it would only cause more confusion. The slight visual change proposed below would be much better.
I think it's a bit like the two-finger scroll on some touchpads. At first it felt logical to move the fingers the same way as the scrollbar (moving the viewport, i.e. move fingers down to read down). Over time it became somehow more natural to think of moving the actual page (i.e. moving fingers up to read down).
(The direction of the pull is almost as counterintuitive as the Diesel Stop switch on some old trains. It has two positions: On and Off. Even when properly trained, you never remember which is Run and which is Stop. So when the engine doesn't start, the first thing to try is flip the Diesel Stop switch, whichever way it is.)

The way I learnt it was to imagine a transparent overlay, with the icons, that I moved/interacted with.
Mohjive ( 2014-02-09 11:32:58 +0200 )edit@jsiren I agree that changing the direction would a) be confusing for existing users and b) counter-intuitive with regards to Jolla's overall navigation concept of swiping. I wouldn't compare it to the two-finger scroll. IMHO the current behavior is not just unfamiliar. Dragging the (already visible) target action icon away is also counter-intuitive, thus my suggestion below for changing the layout...
