I have difficulty placing my cursor on the right spot in the middle of a word or sentence. I need an easy way to navigate through a word or sentence. Either by adding navigation keys to the keyboard or something like the magnifier in IOS or moving cursor in WP.

There is another idea that I have seen since that article was written. The default keyboard of the Galaxy Note II works as a touchpad. When you drag your finger over the letters the cursor moves accordingly. This is very useful and takea up no additional space.

The virtual keyboard in N8 had two arrows for navigation on the left and right of space-bar. I found this very user friendly compared with Android and IOS. I wonder if this can be implemented on SailfishOS, or will broke some Nokia licenses ?

I don't know that this is a good idea, and the solution proposed by Sandy_Locke that was linked above works for techies, but not for folks who just want to move text around. Asking people to keep their hands on a virtual keypad is a step backwards IMO. And the implementation BlackBerry has done is closer to (many) user expectations, with the incentive that it teaches itself.
Zooming the area a person wants to edit works... but that's only because formatting controls need to be the same size as read text, while in-editing-text needs to be larger. Perhaps we are asking the wrong question.. we want to edit text after its been created, styled after its created... why is the text area static. Why isn't it like SVG maps... tapping to zoom into it (for editing or otherwise) making regular-sized editing controls, but not disrupting the integrity of the text window?

There is a magnifying effect already but it is not used in every application yet (e.g. the browser does not use it in textfields on websites (qmlmozweb limitation I guess) but notes does).

Any of the currently proposed solutions (navigation arrows, zoom in or gesture over keys) would be infinitely better. Looking forward for an update related to this.

btw I can't imagine this hasn't come up before, so it might be good to search for that and amalgamate the threads.
