I just stumbled upon a Honkong based company called Zippie, according to the news founded 2016 by Antti Saarnio and other Jolla and Nokia's MeeGo veterans (search for news with the keywords zippie/zippie os + jolla).

While i was aware that Jolla partnered up with some guys for blockchain stuff - i was surprised to read about another OS along with that topic.

I couldn't find any more info about the OS - only that a phone for the US market called Motif (by a company named Blacture, Pras (of the band Fugees) is involved in that) is powered by Zippie OS and currently tested by a few thousand people.

Is this a Sailfish based phone? Does some of you guys know more about it?

Most of the Zippie guys have worked for Jolla. In this sense Zippie is "Jolla friendly" and the original plan was to do a deep integration into SF OS. Zippie OS is not a Smartphone OS in the traditional sense like Sailfish, Android or iOS. Zippie OS is a platform for securely handling your personal identity in conjunction with decentralized apps ("blockchain apps"). It understands itself as an easy gateway to the blockchain world. It is a pure software thing, works without installation and is aimed to be usable with any recent browser (I use Brave on Aliendalvik for it). It aims to integrate dapps into a Zippie UX and does the key handling without the user knowing he is handling keys so even your grandmother can use it. At the moment, e.g. you can order a personal Zippie NFC Card which serves as recovery for your digital identity as well as confirmation for transactions.

I don't know how far their cooperation with the Sailfish developers has grown. The latest communication was that it was easier to develop the browser based Zippie app first and then come back to the Sailfish integration. Their first public cooperation is the Blacture phone but more is to be announced.

The best way to get thorougly informed is probably their medium channel, website and their whitepaper and joining their telegram channel for questions. Carsten Munk, Tom Swindell and Pasi Rusila are happy to answer I guess.

Disclaimer: I am not working for Zippie, I follow them closely and help alpha testing.

edit: There's quite a number of sailfish users involved in the testers group. Come and join, it's nice there :)
