How to add XMPP contact info in People?
If I understood correctly we can use XMPP messaging in the standard Sailfish messaging app, but I don't see any possibility to add the XMPP contact info to the personal contact in the People address book.
How can we add this info, so a message can be send over XMPP to a contact instead of a normal sms?
@JSE
I know very little about XMPP, but I do recognise the name and if you look in Settings/Accounts between VK and Yahoo! you'll see an XMPP icon, click on that, add a username, password and a few other details and then try adding a an XMPP contact from there.......all just guess work on my behalf, but I though I'd comment anyway.
Spam Hunter ( 2018-11-24 19:33:35 +0200 )editI've setup my XMPP account, that's not the problem. It is other peoples XMPP usernames that I can't add to their contact info in the native People app in Sailfish.
JSEHV ( 2018-11-24 19:36:46 +0200 )editIt's never been possible for whatever reason, you must add them using a different client on your phone (Android: Conversations, iOS: ChatSecure) or computer (Gajim, Dino, ...).
In its current state, the built-in XMPP capabilities of Sailfish aren't worth using, but if you insist, make sure you install the packages and follow the instructions listed on http://devel.kondorgulasch.de/telepathy-gabble/ and http://devel.kondorgulasch.de/share-plugin-telepathy/ to improve the quality of your XMPP experience by lightyears. You'll still need another client to add your contacts, though.
nthn ( 2018-11-24 19:55:25 +0200 )editPlease @JollaHQ, make it possible to add XMPP contactinfo in a normal 'noob' way. The Sailfish OS 3 deserves these integrations to be 'monkey-proof', not ' developer-ready'
JSEHV ( 2018-11-24 20:07:18 +0200 )edit@JSE, doing so would lead to nothing, but many support requests for Jolla, as the XMPP-client functionality in SailfishOS is not ready.
