Calendar alarm recurring if not dismissed

I do not know if this is a bug (on my phone) or a feature, but I could not find here or on zendesk a setting to get rid of it.
If somebody is questioning why I do not want to get every 5min a new alarm e.g. during a meeting that takes longer than expected or while driving. As one can imagine it is enormous annoying and distracting even if the phone is just vibrating.
Even if I click on the notification after missing an alert opening the event in the calendar, it afterwards gives me again an alarm.
If this is the normal behaviour and can not be change please let me know.
