"Simcard was removed" error when re-enabling primary sim

Hi all, I get this error on an Xperia Xa2 dual sim when I enable (turn on in settings) the primary and disable the secondary simcard. The status of the sim in the lock screen switches repeatedly from connected to unknown and a popup suggests to restart the phone. The status changes every few seconds and the error keeps popping up. Restarting the phone makes the error go away, without touching the sim, so that seems to be a SW issue.
Any ideas/workarounds? Thanks
