Are you sure that there is an 802.11ac chip? I am not that sure. According to the phone specs, the phone can only work on the 2.4Ghz band (as per jolla.com -> WLAN802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz)

the phone probably has the hw but the software for using it is not ready yet, just like 4G.

I do not think so. There is no big difference in implementing abgn or bgn in the software. I think it is really a hw limitation.
