I'm using an Xperia X with the f2fs filesystem on an external SD card.

I've never had a problem with this up until last week. There is no problem with the filesystem (I'm able to store other files there, and I've only used around 20% capacity of the 64GB SD card).

I have taken some photos and video, which appeared to be saved, but after reviewing in the Gallery, I see this: image description

Using the File Manager, when searching for the files (photo/video) in their respective directories, they are not there. Yet, the Gallery seems to hold some form of link to them.

Something must have happened at a specific date, because both photos and videos from that date are missing. Refreshing the media database from the Utilities menu, has cleared the ghost entries from the Gallery.

It appears the SD filesystem is now read-only. How could that have happened? How do I restore it back to read-write?

Sometimes SD cards can disable write access after an internal error. Maybe check if another device can write to it, like a PC. We're lacking any f2fs-tools on Sailfish too, so maybe try a fsck on a Linux PC and see if that helps.

f2fs is not accessible by any other device unless you're root. It's also not possible for me to remove the SD card as I'm currently don't have access to an SD card reader as I'm travelling. To also have to go through such a step seems somewhat over laborious when the device is not able to do it. It seems a lot of the permissions groups on the SD have been changed to privileged. I have no idea why. I cannot change this permission with a chgrp, even as root.

The group changing problem sounds like a consequence of the card being read-only. Photos being in the privileged group would only be a problem if they weren't readable/writeable by the nemo user, so you could check that. Make sure the Camera directory can be written to by nemo too, but if you can't change things as root then I suspect that the card is mounted read-only because of some fs or hw problem. You can check this with 'mount | grep media' which should show you the attributes of the sd mount.

I'd consider that card out-of-action until you can get home and have a proper look at it. I use f2fs for my SD too, and I'm happy that these kernels are built with support for it, but the Storage manager on Sailfish supports FAT32 or EXT4 so I expect to have to take the card out if I use anything else and run into problems.

I experienced this problem today. I took few pictures in the morning and now gallery shows that "oops cannot display thumbnail" message" just for those pics. After that I took more pics just for testing purposes and now it seems to work ok.
