I have two Bluetooth audio devices, connecting to my Sony Xperia XA2 running Jolla/SFOS version 3.2.0.12.

  • a UE BOOM loudspeakers: Connects correctly, and routes audio correctly
  • a Sony WF-1000X wireless in-ear headphones: Connects correctly, but does not receive audio

Expected behavior.

  • Device is paired correctly
  • Bluetooth settings allow automatic (re-)connections to device.
  • Automatic (re-)connection works successfully for audio device after it is turned on.
  • Sound is then automatically routed to audio device, making it produce sound as expected

BUG: When doing this, the Sony WF-1000X earphones do not get any sound routed – instead the sound is played on the internal speakers in the phone. To compare, the UE BOOM loudspeakers play sound as expected when connected (i.e. audio routing works).

Workaround: Open Bluetooth settings and disconnect then reconnect the WF-1000X. After this, audio is routed as expected.

Is there anything I can do to fix this and/or help track down any bug? Please advise.

I have the same behaviour with my Sony WH-1000XM3. I use the same workaround to get it working

So the problem is that Sony WF-1000X earphones do not get the audio signal from the XA2 if the Bluetooth connection was created automatically (turning the headphones on), right? But after a manual reconnection, the audio works ok?

You have probably checked this already: https://www.sony.no/electronics/feilsoking-oofm?cpint=SG_PRODUCT_DETAILS_PRI-TOUT-OOFM-WF-1000X-EN_GL-2017-11-M02-RESOLVESOUND

@jovirkku: Yes, your description of the error is correct. I'm aware of the unstability issue, and had the earphones' firmware updated in this regard when I still ran android on my XA2. This issue I'm having now isn't an unstable sound on the right earpiece, but instead getting a message that the bluetooth connection is set up, and then not hearing any sound at all.

With that said, I haven't been able to run the sony "Headphones" app (which is used in the article you linked) under aliendalvik, as the current bluetooth setting isn't recognized there - it believes it's disabled when it's not, and enabling it from within the app just makes the app hang.

Exactly! When turned on, the headset says "bluetooth connected", and it appears connected on the phone. And yet the audio output is still on the phone. It's only after disconnecting and reconnecting the bluetooth on the phone (and hearing "bluetooth disconnected" then "bluetooth connected" in the headset) that the audio output is on the headset. And the connection is very stable after that.

Also I need to disconnect and reconnect my JBLs, but I think this is a now issue going under »Bluetooth: there are problems in connecting to some peripheral devices« in the release notes.
