Hi All! Can anyone help me? I tried to install few offline maps on my phone, but every attempt failed. Every time I received an error message, I couldn't start navigation. Is there a precise description for an absolute dumb beginners? We're leaving for Russia next Tuesday, and we need a solution by then, if possible. My phone is : Xperia X F 5121 with 3.0.0.8 Lemmenjoki. Have a nice day for all!

Maps.me (Android) should do the job, but I tested last time on Sailfish 2.x.

edit: you can get cheap prepaid sim cards everywhere in russia with cheap LTE data packages. That might be an option if only online navigation works.

There are two native solutions:

  1. Pure maps with OSM Scout Server

You can install it through Storeman When you install then then you should download maps in OSM Scout Server

  1. OSM Scout

Install in through Storeman then download maps in OSM Scout

I just wanted to write exactly that, referring to an older question. OSM Scout Server offers a comprehensive interface to select offline maps for download, and PureMaps is simply a beautiful piece of software.

Unfortunately, I have no experience with the quality of OSM maps in Russia. My experience with OSM maps in general is very good though.

I have used OSM maps on Kamchatka and these maps were the best for this part of world. I have never tried OSM maps in other parts of Russia.

There are three OSM app In the Storeman's repo, The first two modules ( Route and Fonts ) I installed succesfully. When I want to install the third part ( OSM scout server ) I had got this error : "Nothing provides libcuuc.so.63 needed by harbour osmscout server-1.14.5-1.1.116.1.jolla.armv7hl". And no offline maps...

open terminal and type there

pkcon refresh

after that try to install server one more time

You don't need Fonts and Route anymore if you use it with Pure Maps.

Please read text in BOLDin the description of https://openrepos.net/content/rinigus/osm-scout-server . You are using older SFOS version and you can either update to 3.0.2.x SFOS or install the server from http://repo.merproject.org/obs/home:/rinigus:/maps/sailfish_3.0.2.8_armv7hl/armv7hl/ (package name harbour-osmscout-server-1.14.5-1.116.1.jolla.armv7hl.rpm today, will change in future when the new versions are released). Such complication is caused by SFOS update which broke ICU updates.

Its possible that you would need to install mapbox-qml from the same repository as well. Try to install Pure Maps first and see if its needed.

For Russia, we had a user who ensured that Russia is split into smaller sections allowing you to limit offline map databases to the regions you are interested in.

Good luck!
