[BUG] WhatsApp crashes when focus notification displays, forcing restart of Android Support
Given this is a WhatsApp-related issue, I'd be surprised if it hasn't already been raised. However, it is difficult to accurately find a related bug that has already been raised, especially when most issues are simply titled 'Whatsapp notification'
Xperia X F5121, Sailfish OS 3.1.0.11, WhatsApp 2.19.228
Given WhatsApp is running
And WhatsApp is open in the background
When I receive a message
And a focus notification is displayed (see screenshot)
And I close the focus notification
And I open WhatsApp from the Sailfish home screen
EXPECTED: Then I should WhatsApp open correctly
ACTUAL: But the app crashes (see screenshot)
When I long-press, close WhatsApp
And I open WhatsApp
EXPECTED: Then I should the WhatsApp open correctly
ACTUAL: But the app crashes (see screenshot)
WORKAROUND:
- Long-press, close WhatsApp.
- Settings -> Android Support -> Stop, then Start the service.
- Open WhatsApp.
- WhatsApp will crash every time a message is received when a focus notification is displayed (if WhatsApp is running in the background).
WhatsApp -> Settings -> Notifications -> Popup notification -> No popup
I'm not sure if this will solve the problem as a longer term workaround, but nonetheless, it's still a bug.

Sometimes it works normally, sometimes it duplicates the app window into 2 apps in the home screen, sometimes it will get you to WA messages view and sometimes to correct message. However, most of the time it just goes as described and you have to restart android support.
I will probably just disable the pop-up as well for now.

For me it sometimes opens the popup thing and becomes unresponsive when I want to open another Android app
Sakke ( 2019-09-12 07:10:47 +0200 )editThis bug happens also to me when somebody calls me with videochat... if I don't answer within the first 2 seconds I have to restart the android support, same as you described it. If I, on the other hand, start a call myself, it works just fine. My guess would be that the multimedia functionalities of SFOS can not be called correctly but I can't say for sure.
