I recently moved from a Xperia X to a XA2, as I direly needed android 8 support. Everything is working fine so far but I'm encountering a rather irritating problem when connecting the XA2 (3.2.0.12) to my desktop pc (Kubuntu 18.04) via usb-cable: I am only able to connect the phone as a camera ('USB PTP Class Camera') and thus only get read-only access. As I'm unable to get my smb-shares working directly with sfos (another story), I have to transfer files by uploading them to my nextcloud and download them to the phone using wifi, which is quite uncomfortable and rather slow. The problem didn't occur with my Xperia X where I always had r/w-access to the internal memory as well as the memory card. Any ideas what might be wrong/different with the XA2 compared to the X in this regard?

What is your configuration under settings - USB?

Set it to 'developer mode' maybe.

I need to admit I do not use USB that much but WiFi and SD card...

I stopped using USB for syncing files between my Linux desktop and my XA2 altogether. Instead, I simply mount my phone's directories to a local mount point like this:

desktop$ sshfs -ouid=1000,gid=1000 nemo@192.168.1.115:/run/media/nemo/ ~/mnt

uids, IP address and source directory may vary according to your setup/needs.

I use sftp with Dolphin under Kubuntu. Use a path like sftp://nemo@192.168.0.16/home/nemo/ or whatever IP you phone has. You will have to enable developer mode, though.

@filtrator,@Tanghus: I use sftp with Dolphin under Manjaro OS but that shouldn't matter. In Dolphin you can even place a shortcut in the Remote section of the Places panel making access to your phone very convenient (I made one for /home/nemo and one for the SD card). Just make sure your phone always gets the same IP address in your home network (check router settings) and don't change your SFOS Developer Mode password.

@peterleinchen: developer mode didn't do the trick.

@Tanghus,@Pohli,@dmz: sftp works just fine, although not as quick as a usb-connection. But it will do well enough for me. Thanks a lot!
