Hi there, I've got Xperia10 with most recent SFOS. My fingerprint works for a few days and afterwards it stops working. I noticed this usually happens when I use regular button and enter the security code (but not always).

There's not much in the logs... When I enter the Add fingerprint screen I can see this message:

Jan 29 08:35:59 Xperia10Plus-DualSIM systemd-udevd[20916]: conflicting device node '/dev/mapper/sailfish-home' found, link to '/dev/dm-1' will not be created
Jan 29 08:35:59 Xperia10Plus-DualSIM systemd-udevd[20920]: inotify_add_watch(9, /dev/dm-3, 10) failed: No such file or directory

Restarting the daemon does not help either...

# systemctl restart sailfish-fpd
Jan 29 08:34:34 Xperia10Plus-DualSIM sailfish-fpd[19749]: sighnd_handle_signal: Got signal [15] Terminated

[root@Xperia10Plus-DualSIM nemo]# Jan 29 08:34:41 Xperia10Plus-DualSIM systemd[1]: Started Fingerprint Daemon.

Only way to get it working again is to restart the phone...

Not quite the case, I have no problem adding a fingerprint (when the reader still works). In my case the unlocking with fingerprint stops working and when I try to add new fingerprint then, there's no response from the app - it's like the reader disconnects.

Got is solved?

It happens randomly. When you go the the settings to verify the fingerprint all are gone Adding a new one works but when you try to unlock it does nothing. Sometimes when adding a new one it magically shows the old ones and it stats working again.

Unknown where to gather debug information so pointers are welcome.

This happens under android, too.

The command from above

"# systemctl restart sailfish-fpd"

did help. i am curious how long and will report ...

24 hours later... still working good

Feb.22 ... still working good

Feb.23 ... still working good, but:

After a very long unused time, for example over the night, the X10 seems to go in a deep sleeping or power save mode. In this case, its sometimes (for example today morning) not possible to wake up the phone with the fingerprint sensor.

But after waking up the phone with the power button, the fingerprint sensor works fine immediately when the phone requests the access code number.

Mar. 1.: Still working good. On the X10 its necessary to swipe the finger over the sensor, not only press the finger on the sensor! For me at this time the problem seems to be solved.

I noticed my phone was very slow and draining the battery. The "fingerprint@2.1" was consuming 100% CPU all the time.

The upcoming 3.3.0 release is expected to bring help to the problem with the fingerprint recognition.

Great news, I hope for the best! Just yesterday all my fingerprints disapeared and I had to add them again.

We have improved the fingerprint recognition in Sailfish OS release 3.3.0.14. This concerns Xperia XA2 and Xperia 10 devices. Please report if it works for you now. Thank you!

PLEASE HELP:
If you are still facing problems with the fingerprint recognition please describe in detail what happens.
a) Can you not teach your fingerprints at Settings > Device lock? Or,
b) Is it so that the teaching part works but when trying to unlock the screen your fingerprint is not recognised?

This is how b) is supposed to work on 3.3.0. There are two options: A and B.

Starting point: Xperia 10/XA2 is on but the screen is locked and black.

A1. Touch the fingerprint detector. This makes the vibrator play shortly and brings the security code dialogue to the display. A2. Lift the fingertip off and then touch the detector the 2nd time. The screen gets unlocked and you can start using the phone.

B1. Press the Power key shortly. The lock screen (date/time/etc) appears. B2. Touch the fingerprint detector. The screen gets unlocked and you can start using the phone.

sorry what is the real command to restart the interface? is that like here systemctl restart sailfish-fpd? or systemctl restart sailfish-devicelock-encfsa-fpdlike here: https://together.jolla.com/question/219026/bug-32120-ea-fingerpint-device-unlock-not-work-reproduce-instruction-here-xa2-plus/?

The problem still exists. I have the problem on a XA2 Plus with 3.3.0 Rokua. The sensor does not work at all, not for fingerprint setup in Settings > Device Lock and not for unlocking. This was not the case before changing the automatic locking from immediately to 5 minutes (with the 3.3.0 version installed already).

I find a way for avoid reboot...

  1. open terminal
  2. type devel-su
  3. type killall sailfish-fpd

and it should be repaired

Not really an answer but more like a work around. But good to know that a reboot can be avoided.

For me it did not solve the issue. I still need to reboot.

Johan Smits ( 2020-02-15 17:40:11 +0200 )edit

Does the task restart automatically? Or have I to restart the task manually after using the "kill" command?

Andrea777 ( 2020-02-18 22:30:51 +0200 )edit

seems for me to to be a clean reboot, kill all to restart is for me not sane...

I had the same problem on my Xperia 10. I did erase all stored fingerprints and after this I stored my fingerprints new. Since this time it works, but sometimes it is necessary to press the finger strong and/or long on the sensor.

Update 1 week later: fingerprint sensor works no more. This try to solve the problem was senseless on my phone.

A working solution is described in my post above!

I am not shure whether this is the same problem:

On my Xperia 10 from time to time the wake via fingerprint sensor stops working. It is just the wake up. When I touch the fingerprint sensor, there is some vibration but the phone doesn't wake up. Pressing the power button to wake up the phone is working and I can unlock the thereafter with the fingerprint sensor. So in a way, the fingerprint sensor works but it doesn't wake up the phone.

EDIT/jovirkku/2020-04-16: No, this is not a problem of the fingerprint detector. The "wake-up problem" is discussed in this post.

@jovirkku: the problem you are linking to is a bit different. In my case, I only can wake up the phone with the power button altough the phone vibrates when I try to wake up the phone with the fingerprint sensor. Unlocking with the fingerprint sensor is fine. However, the screen keeps staying in the darkest state - not adapting to the ambient light. I mentioned to co-occurrence in the other post: [3.x.x] Automatic display brightness adjustment stuck

Since I lack basic skills I made a screenshot of that passage in journalctl that appears pertinent to me for the fingerprint wake up / dark screen problem: journalctl

I have no such problem with the XA2

@jovirkku: Thank you!

Normally, both options are working with my Xperia 10 but after a while option A ceases to work. Then, the phone vibrates if I touch the fingerprint sensor while the screen is black but the phone doesn't wake up (i.e. only the second part of step A1 fails). After a reboot, everything is fine and both options are there again. Option B always works with me (so far ...)

I suppose that it is not intended in 3.3.0 that option A ceases working after a while

AkiBerlin ( 2020-04-09 11:22:14 +0200 )edit

@AkiBerlin: Thanks for your report. Both A and B should keep working, We need to investigate this more (especially if there is more similar feedback). My 10 Plus has worked fine, A+B.

@AkiBerlin: After getting a better insight to these problems, it seems that what you reported here on April 8th, is exactly the same problem as is discussed in https://together.jolla.com/question/219026/321-330-xa2-screen-unlock-with-fingerprint-does-not-work-before-automatic-locking-timer-has-elapsed/?sort=votes&page=1.

That problem (how it happens and why) became clear just recently (yesterday/today). It is not a problem with the fingerprint recognition itself but a failure to switch to the home view.

jovirkku ( 2020-04-16 12:05:17 +0200 )edit

I can report, that all problems with the fingerprint reader are disappeared on my Xperia 10 since the last update to SFOS 3.3.0.16 .

I did update yesterday and since this time the fingerprint sensor works perfect, and btw., also the GPS and the phone network selection.

Thank you very much Jolla Team!

Edit June, 13: Fingerprint sensor still working fine.
