XA2 USB only charging mode on Nuuksio?

For some reason, on my Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra with Sailfish 3.2.1.20 (Nuuksio) I only get USB charging mode, even though I've in the settings selected "Always ask" for the default USB mode. When I plug the USB cable to a computer, it goes directly to "Charging only mode in use". Earlier OS versions did ask and gave me the other modes.
Anyone else see this, what kind of debugging would you suggest?
Have you tried different cables? Maybe one is broken and will not transfer data anymore but nevertheless loading can work.

In my case, since I added fingerprint, my XA2 goes straight to charging-only despite having selected always USB network (I use exclusively SSH).
Only after I unlock with fingerprints does it honor my selection and opens up the USB network connection.

On at least two machines, running a) Win10 Prof. and b) Linux Mint 18.x. Tried different USB cables. Tried different USB ports. Stepped through all of the 3 possible modes for USB connection on SF OS device. Ideas?
