Dear Sailors,

on my device (Xperia 10 with 3.3.0.14 EA), the e-mail app is downloading pictures without my permission. I have never turned it on and I have checked it in my preferences, turned it on and off again within seconds to perhaps turn off the flag.

What is going on?

Cheers!

Hi.
Send (or ask somebody to send) to you a message having a picture attached. 1) Open your email inbox. Look at a received message. What does it say under the message header?
2) Open the message. What does it say at the top frame, on the left?
3) Open Settings > Apps > Email. Is the top-most item enabled or not?

Hi! Perhaps I was not clear. I mean e-mails, e.g. spam that have inline pictures downloaded, not attached.

ad (1): there is the sender, subject and html-code

ad (2): In the open message, first the pictures are downloaded, which I don't like. How do you mean "on the left"? Can you perhaps make a screenshot to make it clear?

ad (3): No, the top-most item is not enabled and has never been.

Thank you in advance!

Dejan, did you check that those images we're indeed only remote-referenced as opposed to inline-referenced? MIME allows attachments as images and those can be referenced as source in the email document's HTML. If you see images, these may simply be MIME attachments which would have been displayed anyway.

Yes, I have checked this and checked against my mail software on the laptop. If I turn off the loading of external pictures in the software on the laptop, then they are not shown and I need to confirm that I want to see them. On the laptop, no attachments are shown and the e-mails are much too small (kb-wise), than with pictures included.
