Random Touch Events after Unlock

Directly after unlocking my Xperia 10, the phone performs random touch events. It looks like touchs are stored in a pipeline and then performed one after the other in a very short period of time, opening random apps, etc. Since this happens only occasionally, it is hard to reproduce but I have the feeling that it occurs more oven when the battery is low. Does anyone of you have the same experience?

Check your mobile data connection when it happens. (in my case, here was the pattern to be found)

Sounds similar to my issue with my old Xperia X (f5121). Funny thing was, it only got mad when the data connection had fallen back to 2G. Then the phone opened up lots of apps, got partially deep in to settings menues and called contacts - all within just 1-3 seconds. Was a total mess. First I locked the phone by power button. Then I tried to disable mobile data very quickly after unlocking. Everything was fine when on 3G / 4G.

I can't confirm a low battery as a trigger.

Since it was in my case clearly related to data connection type, I was convinced it was some hardware failure. So I replaced it with another device (10 Plus Dual) - and 2x this new phone showed a similar glitch (here probably related to a different hardware issue I'm facing - described here: https://together.jolla.com/question/225481/xperia-10-plus-ds-random-freezes/ )

So, I can't provide a solution - but you are not the only one owning a handset with its own mind ;-)

Cheers

@tobset: are you sure it is not just a little bent?

@tobset I had the same thought as you. My phone works ok in my house with wif. But once I'm outside and start using it sometimes the phone gets black and restart or applications get stuck or random touches like the firts comment. Normally it happens between the transition from wifi to 4g or when I have low connection

My Xperia 10 has a physical issue where it gets slightly bent (inward/forward), which causes what you describe. If i bend it back, lightly, it sometimes gives a little snap/pop from the screen resettling in the case, sometimes not, but regardless the ghost touch stops immediately.

Wow, that really raises some concerns about the Xperia 10's build quality. Good to know anyway.

@attah

So you got me starting bend my mobile... I'll test this approach with my 10 plus - maybe it solves my main issue (screen being unresponsive).

update:

After my first attempt, it seems to solve my 'screen-beeing-unresponsive' issue. Even though it's just a premature relief - but it looks good. Keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks for your idea!

Happy it helps. I have seen unresponsive screen too, light bending solves that for me as well.

@attah After one week of occasional bending:

yes, this does the trick. You saved my day(s).

Your help is much appreciated!

Thanks for your hint. I'll try it next time. It is super annoying to have a one year old phone with such hardware issues!

I had the same problem (random touch events) with my XperiaX F5121. I identified 2 possible hardware failures (which I solved both at the same time, so i can't say, what was the real cause):

1)deep scratches on the display. I treated them with liquid display sealer

2)pins of the USB-connector were a bit uptwisted. I replaced the connector with a new one.

Maybe when replacing the USB connector you fixed the connectivity issue with the display as a positive colateral effect

@AkiBerlin

I think you are right.

In case of my Xperia X F5121 the problems started some time after battery and USB-connector replacement.

Still I'm curious - mechanical cause (let's say, on some connector) seems most likely (in respect to having opened up the device .. and of course the bending thing @attah mentioned),

but that wouldn't explain my findings (stated above) that in my case the problem definitly only occured while on 2G data connection - the moment the phone lost 4G / 3G and is fallen back to 2G, it has got wild - this never happened on 4G / 3G.
