XA2 new install email message: "Error Occurred" [answered]

I've recently moved from an Xperia X to an XA2 and moved everything across using backup & restore via the sd card. The email was working fine on the X but whenever I try to update, all I get is a message "Error Occurred", in the Inbox display area. When I try and send an email, I get a message in a pop-up "Problem sending email".
I get the same errors via wifi or mobile data, and the issue survives a reboot.
The email is Pop & SMTP.
I've checked the settings & password & all look okay.
I can't find the same error message on here, so is there any way I can debug this? Are there any logs that may give me a more informative message?
