Context-menus should behave like pulley-menus and give away their secrets without moving too much.

What we love about the pulley is that you activate an item without tapping while being able to read it.

That does not work that well with context-menus!

How about having the long-tap activate a pulley-menu with the context and not a menu under your finger you cannot read without moving your finger below it and back up to release at the actual item? It could pop down from the top with a vibration locking in the first item in the very second the long-tap is being recognized.

I just showed the device to a friend and that was an inconsistency he recognized within 30seconds (tech-savvy guy).

My experiance is that the menu is placed under your finger only with the SMS app (https://together.jolla.com/question/24669/sms-message-context-menu-is-inconsistent/). For other apps the context menu is presented below the item you pressed and the item you pressed is kept under your finger.

That's a nice idea. but i think i would prefer it that way: the long tap should grey out the screen, highlight the item you selected (as it is now) and activate only the glow at the top for a pulley menu (not locking at the first item in it), than you can pull out this menu, like we know it from any other pulley menu. i think that would be the better way to prevent an unwanted action by just lifting the finger in the moment the menu appears.

@Mohjive my fingers do not touch the screen perpendicular... so any menu popping up below the item I long-tapped is hidden beneath my finger! pretty hard to find those duplicates! @Zandi a vibration and a bright glow from the top would do but most of the time you do long-tap intentionally so locking on the first item could be a neat settings option!

@chemist there could be another reason why a locking on the first item is not the best solution. Maybe you did a Long tap on something at the bottom of the Screen. so you would have no Chance to pull the menu down further to select the second or third Option in this pulley menu. in this case you have to lift your finger and would select the first item in the menu. or did i get you comletly wrong?
