Sometimes, the PIN for the SIM card is asked while the phone is running. In some/most cases, phone lock is not even activated. It is not due to random reboots of the phone as when typing the PIN the previously opened applications are still open. In some cases, opened applications are closed. Additionally, in some cases, the display is constantly showing the PIN query with dimmed light, causing the battery to be drained. This happens more and more often (currently at least once a day).

Latest SailfishOS version 1.1.6.27 installed.

Edit:

As described above - this issue is happening 'randomly' and unintended while the Jolla is in the pocket. This bug is (or seems to be) caused by the loose SIM-Contact-Issue of first hardware revisions which is triggered easily by squeezing and twisting your Jolla (like it's happening in your pocket). The real issue is not the SIM-Card contact loss (because this is a hardware issue) but that you will see the SIM-Pin query after pulling your Jolla out of your pocket and you are unable to type in your SIM-Pin because of missing touch input. So I found a way to reproduce this issue now. :)

How to reproduce:

  1. Lock your Jolla with the power button/swipe-down-gesture. You also shouldn't have the Device Lock activated
  2. Remove your TOH
  3. Cover the proximity sensor or put your Jolla screen-side on your table
  4. Now pull out your SIM card partly and directly put it in the the right position again to simulate the mentioned hardware bug
  5. Wait (while still covering the proximity sensor) about 5 seconds
  6. Now uncover the proximity sensor --> You will get the SIM-Pin query, the display is dimmed and touch input is not accepted. You will get this buggy Pin query (with missing touch input in this semi-locked state) every time after covering and uncovering the proximity sensor like it's happening after pulling your Jolla out of the pocket.
  7. You have to double-tap to unlock the screen out of this semi-locked state to be able to insert your SIM-Pin

Expected behaviour:

After pulling out your Jolla out of your pocket or uncovering the proximity sensor your display should not turn on by itself and stay in this semi-locked state while showing the SIM-PIN query but the display should stay black or show the glance screen in case you have activated it.

Could it be the connection to the SIM card was lost like in https://together.jolla.com/question/1358/sim-card-connection-to-phone-lost-easily/

I guessed that this was due to something like that, but the behavior is a bit different: the pin is asked, I have no message saying that the sim card has been removed. Thus maybe there is another reason (or maybe it is really linked).

I think I have the same problem. Phone was on the table and suddently it made a beep, display turned on and phone was asking for pin code. Does not say anything about missing sim card and seems that the phone has not rebooted.

I have noticed that this often happens when my jolla is in my pocket and im sitting in a car. I guess the phone loses 3G/2G signal in the car and later when it recieves cellular signal again, it asks for the pin-code.

I have the same problem. Sometimes the pin query dialog appears and I must enter my pin. After this, the phone shows me the old screen.

I got my first Jolla some weeks ago, but I couldn't use it because I also had this SIM PIN problem: Again and again, the phone asked for the SIM PIN while it was running. There was no action which triggered the PIN query, the phone was on my desk, I didn't touch it and after some time it asked for the PIN.

At first, I suspected the SIM card, so I ordered a new one. But the behaviour didn't change with the new SIM card. I also performed the check described in section 1.4 on this page, but the phone didn't react in any way to this procedure. So it's neither a problem of the SIM card nor a problem of the hardware.

I could solve the problem by choosing "prefer 3G" instead of "prefer 4G" in the mobile network settings. In my case this change has no disadvantages because my contract doesn't allow the use of 4G. Now everything works fine.

I don't know the reason for this behaviour. Does anyone have an idea? Do you always have to choose this option if your contract doesn't allow the use of 4G? (I didn't find such an advice anywhere.) Is it a bug in Sailfish OS? Is it a problem of the phone company? (I have a SIM card from the German company Congstar which uses the network of German Telekom.) Is it something else?

As already mentioned, my Jolla works fine now, so I don't really need to know the answer. But I want to share the workaround and I hope that my hints will help to solve the problem.

Hmm. On my first phone (Congstar) I fixed this with moving the battery contacts and some paper. On the second phone (Congstar) this hadn't worked, so I will try your fix.

Had this bug for a while, too. My guess is that it is part of the overall faulty powersupply problems, like this one: https://together.jolla.com/question/37480/wiki-battery-random-reboots-shutdowns-cause-impedance-problem-and-solution/

There is a better question/answer about all this, but I can't find it atm. The battery situation is 3 different problems combined into one: 1. Battery contacts may become filthy, cleaning them (both the battery and the contacts on the phone) helps. 2. Battery needs to be pushed more against the contacts, put a piece of paper between the bottom of the battery and the phone. 3. Battery becomes too hot, put a small piece of paper behind the battery so that it is not directly touching the phone.

Like I said, I had the pin issue combined with the OOM issues. And in low battery conditions, sudden reboots or general funky behavior.

While I can imagine that there is a genuine dedicated problem with the sim contacts, I doubt that. I have one of the The first One devices and the pin entry issues never were isolated from other OOM/reboot scenarios.

This is a hardware issue. Mostly found in the 'older' Jolla phones.

If you press the back of the phone around the location when the sim is located it loses connection. When the pressure is released you need to put in your pincode. As far as the phone knows you removed and reinserted the simcard.

So this is not a bug but a hardware error. Just make sure you don't press the back of the phone too hard. Phone and keys not in the same pocket, back of the phone facing to the outside.
