Usually, emails removed from the inbox in Gmail are "archived" instead of deleted so that they are kept in "all mail." Deleting from the Sailfish client puts the items in "Bin" which is then automatically wiped on a regular basis.
Archiving instead of deleting should either another option in the pulley menu, or an option in the settings should be available to make the delete action archive instead.

The generic solution (not just for gmail) would be to enable user to choose which folder should deleted emails go to. On my private account (not gmail) I have created an "Archive" folder, and taught all the email clients I use to put deleted emails in there. It would be great if the Jolla client could do that too.
La soluzione migliore sarebbe quella di scegliere tra le impostazione se tramite un semplice gesto swipe di eliminare la e-mail oppure di archiviarla in una cartella predefinita o anche essa personalizzata. In questo modo abbiamo piena scelta di personalizzazione anche del client mail

I think that a general solution to this would be to have an archive action either in the pulley menu or when swiping right on a message.

Proposed solution: have both an 'archive' and a 'delete' action for e-mail.
The default behaviour of the 'archive'-action for non-Gmail accounts could be debatable. I believe defaulting to the same as 'delete' is the most portable (as all platforms should already support deletion), whereas moving to an 'Archive' folder requires each e-mail provider to have such a folder available.

Email app is generic not a gmail only app, this would not be good for users or other services, also would go against the IMAP standards, at least I'm not aware of any standard specifying such behaviour.
VDVsx ( 2014-03-19 18:33:16 +0300 )editI would agree if I had added the account as an IMAP account - and it turns out, if I had, I could set gmail to treat "delete" as "achive." But the account is added as a Google account, so I feel it should act more like users would expect of Gmail. Now I think about that, a workaround, could be to turn off email sync in the Google account and add a seperate IMAP account to get email which I can then set to act as epxected - although this seems a bit hacky.
