In the release notes for Ohijärvi it seems to be saying that Macs should now see the phone over MTP (or at least iPhoto should). Unfortunately this does not seem to be the case. In iPhoto the phone shows up as an arm, but none of the photos ever load and I cannot import anything. It merely states "Loading..." continuously.

Additionally the phone does not show up in the Finder or anywhere for syncing purposes. It would still be very difficult to recommend to an average Mac user (which is, these days, a significant portion of the potential early adopter pool). Hopefully this can soon be remedied.

I can confirm this.

OS-X 10.9.2 iPhoto 9.5.1 (902.17) SailfishOS 1.0.4.20

This seems to happen when there are many (4000ish) files in MTP's list (SD card and most of the home directory). The files don't have to be pictures; I reproduced it by creating .txt files.

@rbraakman I don't have a high number of files on my Jolla, if that is what you mean. I have never, at any point, been able to import photos to iPhoto or Image Capture.

I have the basically the same problem. I could import my photos from Jolla when opening the iPhoto but I'm not able to transfer other files between Jolla and Mac. As you mentioned Jolla doesn't show up in Finder. Some kind of solution is needed.

Confirmed, OSX 10.9.2. Unlike pre-Ohijärvi, now I see the word "Jolla" on iPhoto, but it just gets stuck on "Loading..." forever.

Yes. Also a Yosemite 10.10.1 iMac, with the latest iphoto release actually can't recognize Jolla as digital camera. This is strange - many cheap android phone, the wp (!), and the old N9 works with iphoto - but probably will be fixed in a next major release.

A smart escape could be upload your pics from sailbox to dropbox and import then in iphoto.

I know is not as 'import' but it works
