currently all Wifi-Networks in settings are identified by their SSID.

It's not possible to have multiple Networks with the same SSID but different access keys set up. There are a lot SSIDs "WLAN" arround and you can't add more than one of them. Before connecting to a new one, you have to delete the old one.

That would make it impossible to use multi-accesspoint WLAN networks. SSID's are supposed to be unique between networks. Problem lies with the owners of the wlan, not jolla.

it is possible on windows and symbian. the os trys the next saved network settings with that same ssid if the stored key in the first settings was wrong

This is also very annonying if you added a standard SSID network like "FritzBox 7360 SL". Everytime the phone finds a network with the same name it tries to connect and a connection error appears. ;-(

@XiliX not true, SSID+MAC should be unique , not just SSID, 80% of home wlans are in default configuration only password has changed, also hotels, restaurants, everywhere you can meet SSID with same name as elsewhere, jolla should recognize and remember trusted networks by BSSID

ConnMan supports having multiple networks with same SSID but different security settings, so the bug is in the wlan UI.

Connman supports networks with same ssid as long as they have different encryption types. It identifies networks by ssid and encryption type. If they have the same ssid and encryption type, there are not two connman configurations for them, just one, because it's service path, which is made up of the ssid and enc. type is the same. So the other network is going to fail when you try and connect.

If they have the same encryption type, there is no way connman will correctly identify them.

I just tried on my symbian N8, and it does not show both AP's with same ssid. Mac os X as well as Windows 7 doesn't show the second one either. Connman does not tell about both of them either.

I know it's there as wpa_cli on the device will clearly show both, but connman does not support that, by design.

This is not a UI issue.

I see multiple same SSID's when the encryption is not the same in the connection selector. If they use the same SSID and encryption, connman will not handle that.

but you have to delete the old settings if you want to connect to another network with the same SSID example:

network1 not in range, but stored settings with: SSID="WLAN", key="key1"
network2 in range: SSID="WLAN", key="key2"
-> selecting network2 in connection selector will result in an error, you have to delete stored settings of network1

I have a different Use Case. I recently added a new network: FreeWifi (http://www.free.fr). This network shows up as public but requires browser authentication. The operator Free has a lot of hot-spots in Paris and they are all called FreeWifi ("not a bug, but a feature"). Since two days I noticed that when I go to work in the morning I find my phone at PIN screen. The route is a 30 minutes walk and the wifi is on. Today I just disabled the FreeWifi network (wifi on) and the phone didn't reboot. I am not sure if it is related to this network, but is there a way to look at this use case if somehow it will crash SailfishOS?

After two days more I have un update: yesterday my phone didn't reboot doing the same route but I enabled the FreeWifi network just before leaving for work. Today my phone rebooted but I did a longer route and also used the car in Paris. Also the phone was up since the last PIN screen 2 days ago. When I got to work my phone was at PIN screen. When I left work I was looking at my phone and I noticed that I get a lot of messages about connection problems. I got home and now when I go to the WLAN screen under settings I get "Networking is not available. Please restart phone." (the wifi is on all the time, FreeWifi is enabled but never authenticated through browser) I will try to learn how to use journalctl. Also I don't know if I should continue with this issue on this thread. I think it may be related with WIFI Networks with same SSID but not on the same subject.
