I think this is a feature rather than a bug, so that we know in which direction to shift our head for a better duckface angle on the selfie :) like looking into a mirror.
The resulting image is not mirrored.
Actually, I just took my first-ever selfie to check this out (miserably failing at duckfacing, though) and think that the mirrored view is quite comfortable - I might actually use this for shaving on the next camping trip, thanks for pointing this feature out :)

I was talking about the Sailfish camera: preview on display is mirrored, the resulting image is not. AFAIK, Android apps cannot access the camera functionality at all, or do they?

Could you elaborate on how this can be reproduced? See my answer below, but actually it has nothing to do with android, so I might have just got you wrong and maybe we're talking about different things.
