I've had this two times on two consecutive days now, with similar usage situations (short phonecalls, a couple of messages and light net surfing prior to incident): the battery has been discharged from full-ish to just under the 70%- mark through normal use, when suddenly the charge drops to 4 % (yesterday 65->4, today 69->4). The first time I just did a reboot to check if the battery level returned to normal (it didn't), and plugged the phone to the charger and left it there. On todays sudden drain at first I did the same, but then decided to unplug the charger and do a reboot. The charge level rose immediately from 25% to 76% after it. I also noticed that the charging seemed quite quick before the reboot, but it dropped to a normal rate after it.

-I checked the Notifications just before both incidences; Twitter, Gmail and FB sync on

-No Developer mode activated, no OpenRepos

-Apps running ATT: Meecast, Messages, Lighthouse, Phone, Jolla Store

-This might be irrelevant, but during these two days in question I had a couple of warnings about the unit overheating, and being in need of a reboot. The phone temperature seemed normal to me, and Lighthouse clocked CPU temps between 38 and 41 Celsius...

So, does this seem like a software issue, or a problem with the battery?

Edit: added tag "temperature"

Update 12.1. 2015: Closed this, as the issue has apparently been fixed, or was just minor glitch. Still no actual answer to the question, but judging by the lack of votes and comments hasn't happened that often lately... Also retagged the question (added "bug").

Update 13.1. 2015: Reopened the question, as it seems that others have had this issue quite recently after all. Sorry for going back and forth with this :)

Here is an older post by @Refiineri, where the same issues are mentioned (somehow I missed the question while doing my research). Should I close my question as a duplicate, or keep it open as the emphasis in Refiineri's question is on the overheating, and mine is on the immediate level drop of the battery?

I just had this happen to me twise. First time from 73% to 4% and the second time from 45% to 2%. Both times I shutdown removed the battery and reseated it and the values were back up.

I've had this happen to me a few times as well. From ~50-25% to 0%-> reboot.

A few times my Jolla showed the charger icon full screen after shutting itself down.

Has happened to me couple of times now with the latest software. Today my battery level was 46%, but suddenly Jolla just shutdown. After I turned it back on, Jolla said 4% and shutdown again. From that point on I was not able to boot the phone anymore (Didn't remove battery, had backup-phone with me, thanks to Sonera + Double-SIM). Moment ago I plugged it in the charger, and the phone started up by itself. Now it shows me 55% of battery.

Poor battery. I discovered the same after one year with the original battery. The level suddenly dropped from ~50% to 4% and shut the device down. CSD tool stated a fail for the battery resistance test (see screenshot).

However, I am in the lucky posession of a spare battery. After replacing the battery CSD tool reported a pass on the same test. And I didn't even clean the contact pins ;-)

This would not be too much of an issue - if jolla would officially offer SPARE BATTERIES! x(

Since a couple of days I have this problem. Was lucky enough to buy a spare battery back in December. Put a piece of paper on in, though it fits much tighter than the old ones. The contacts still look fine. Still, using CSD, it failed the test. The old battery failed the test too.

Also in December, I bought a Jolla for my wife. She discarded it for a Samsung in April, and this battery passes the test.

Dear Jolla, a battery lifetime of a half year is not enough!

Maybe this is the impedance problem?

I've had couple of battery level drops as well, but not any more since I put 2 pieces of tape to the bottom of the battery.

I have the impression that there is something wrong how the battery charge indicator values are calculated, as similar use results in slower discharge if above 50% than if below.

I have the same problem. Example from today: Battery level is at 48% after few minutes it drops to 2% and phone shut down. What is even worse is, that if I plug in the charger. The phone starts to charge the battery beginning from 48%. After 2,5 hours the level is at 96%

I don't know hot to demonstrate it, but I really belive that I can use only have of the battery. In the beginning I had to charge my phone every 2 days. Now I charge it every day because I dont trust this level meter.

Is there any possibility to recalibrate this level meter? I know from my old HTC phone that it was possible there using CWM.

I'm seeing the same problem! Today the battery level was around 50% and then suddenly it dropped to 2% and the phone shut down. I started charging the phone and then suddenly the battery level was more than 60% immediately.. go figure.

Something is really weird related to the battery handling.. is it possible the battery itself is bad? I think it's more probably a software bug..

Also possibly related.. sometimes my phone crashes (reboots) when I'm at a low signal quality (3g reception) area and I do something that requires "a lot of" battery.. like starting a web browser, or taking a picture with the camera.. i've had a lot of instant crashes/reboots when the mobile signal quality is poor.

Known problem: poor battery contacts. You can try this which should give good results: https://together.jolla.com/question/7144/jolla-randomly-shuts-down-10819/?answer=52658#post-id-52658

Had last year or so. Cleaning battery contacts with an eraser and moving the phone contact pins a bit fixed for me. Solution was on these pages.

It happened to me many times!!! It would not re-happen in a short period if I reinstalled the battery without cleaning the contacts. Mostly it happened while running Android apps like QQ International and Wechat .Then the battery level dropped , from 34% to 4%, then 2%, finally 0% and shutdown .

Edit 2016.11.16: Just know that this problem also happened to some N9. Is it an OS related problem, from Meego Harmattan to Sailfish?

Similar here with Jolla C. Just a couple of times till now and never dropped lower than 30% so did not lead to device suddenly shutting down. image description image description
