Although swipe down will lock the display (on either the lock/home screen or the multitasking view), it would be nice (not to mention logical, consistent and natural) if double-tapping on the lock screen (ie. that screen you see when first unlocking the device - the one with the time and cellular operator name) would also lock the device.

After all, you can double-tap to unlock the device so why not double-tap to lock it as well? One gesture to unlock and a completely different gesture to lock makes little sense.

Sometimes I want to unlock the device without looking at it, so if a second double-tap would lock the device again, that would be a bit annoying.

@Milhouse: Did you mean "blank the screen" by "locking"? You can do that also by pressing the power button shortly. But it seems that there is no way to actually lock the device (other than wait for the lock time). I made a feature request about that: https://together.jolla.com/question/4339/

First of all I need to be clear about my terminology as I could have it wrong - I don't use a lock code, so when I say "lock screen" I just mean the initial unlock screen with the time and cellular operator. I suppose a better name for this is the "notifications" screen.

On this screen, you can lock (turn off display) the device by swiping down or tapping the power button.

What I'm asking for is to be able to turn off the display with a double tap while on this initial notification screen, which is the logical opposite of the double tap to unlock. Quite often I find myself double tapping to unlock/activate the display, quickly checking the time or notifications, then I have to carefully rearrange the device in my hand in order to swipe down with my thumb (or tap the power button) when the logical thing to do would be to double tap again to deactivate/lock the display, without moving my hand at all.

Double tap (unlock), check time/notifications, double tap (lock). Done.

I've seen your request, but that's a different "lock screen" to the one I'm (most probably incorrectly) referring to.

I think "notifications" screen is the one you get by swiping up. But I know what you mean, let's call it "the initial screen with the clock". :) But that screen blanks in just few seconds unless you are moving the device, so I personally don't see the need for double tap (lock) on that screen...

Even though it blanks quite quickly, it still means waiting a few seconds before popping it back into a pocket which you wouldn't want to do while it was unlocked (screen active). So a quicker way to lock (deactivate display) would be nice, and the most "natural" and logical option would be another double tap. In fact it's so obvious I'm surprised it hasn't been implemented, unless someone has a patent on it...HTC perhaps? :(
