I have had my Jolla laying next to me. Suddenly, the screen turned on. I expected a mail and took into my hands, few seconds later the notification came. I clicked on the notification immediately (and could quickly start to read). However, the SMS was not displayed and soon after the display turned off and the LED was blinking rapidly green. So I turned it off and on. The received SMS is nowhere to find :/

Had similar situation today. Wanted to pay some bills via online-banking. Notification sounded like usual, that I got the sms with PIN Code. I opened up messages App, but the SMS message was not there, only old messages with old pin codes. I repeated the action several times, sending PIN Code from the web site, but with no effect, sms messages were somehow lost. In this stripe on the top in the first seconds when receiving sms message I could've read the right code(that is how i paid the bill - quick write down while reading from the moving stripe ;)) ), but that was it, in the app there was no message. I tried to delete the old messages from the pin code provider, but wouldn't delete. Only after reboot i could've delete the messages. Hmm, if this repeats i will let here know, i have some more bills to pay today ;)))

This (or some variation of this) has happened to me twice.
On both times, I've seen the small bar on top of the screen showing the beginning of the message and tapped it. After this the message has not however been there (in the messages app) but the previous (old message) from the same sender has been duplicated. I.e. I now have the second latest message from the sender twice but the latest message can not be found at all.
The lost message can not be recoverd by rebooting.

It also happened to me, but not exactly in the same way. Sometimes it happens that I get notifications for sms, the screen turns on, I (quickly) swipe to notifications screen, which is empty. But the sms is correctly receive (I have to know where to look at, though).
magullo ( 2014-06-05 10:24:35 +0300 )Happened to me also. Notification for sms showed up, but when I tried to open it there was no sms, only old messages. I didn't really look in notification from who the sms was, so now I don't know if it was something important or not. This is quite frustrating!
