If I use a (Android) navigation app like NavFree or MapNavigator the orientation of my car as I follow the route is usually not picked up correctly by the program so it sometimes thinks I'm driving at the speed limit but with my car sideways on to the road. (Flipping my phone from portait to landscape is correctly detected). For programs that show a 3D view of where I'm facing this can result in it showing me the roads I've already passed instead of ones I'm approaching (so I now use a 2D view to avoid this).

I'm using Sailfish version 1.0.2.5 (but the same problem happened with earlier versions).

Do others see this (and even better know of a fix/workaround) or is my hardware faulty?

edit: Problem still exists after 1.0.3.8 update

Same problem with Navfree. And often when closing a crossroad or when another road is close by, the mpa throws me to there. Android Apps are able to use the accelerometer, but I suppose not quite well.

I rephrased your question. The accelerometer works (e.g. open this page in Opera mobile), but the problem is the compass. The compass doesn't work (neither in Java application, nor in web browser applications).

This question has been answered by Jolla in a latter post: https://together.jolla.com/question/15911/android-navigation-apps-always-oriented-to-the-north/

Now what we should do with this older one? Close the newer as duplicate and move the answer here, or close this as a duplicate?

The compass sensor in sailfish works fine. The middleware layer uses libhybris, so essentially, it is using android sensors.

I have a working Jolla/Sailfish compass app in the works.

This is indeed an issue with android app using compass. Which is odd, as QtSensors uses libhybris which essentially uses android sensors.

This answer would be more appropriate here: https://together.jolla.com/question/4236/any-information-about-the-compass/
