I often run in situations where I would like to hide incoming message notifications (e.g. while I showing of my Jolla to others and receive a private message).

A nice gesture would be to just 'swipe up' the (message) notification for hiding (or swiping away) this notification. :)

Update:

I just want to point out that this is a really needed feature because you will face several problems because of Jollas (great) UI-design and the decision to avoid a status bar:

I am using Mitäkuuluu on a daily routine and I often get a lot of group messages (but also e.g. facebook chat messages) which are spaming the top of the screen. This message notifications are masking the top display area up and

  • this will prevent you from using all the pulley menus in SFOS (especially with deactivated vibrations or this issue)
  • you won't be able to see/ read the content/ text on the top of the UI
    • and this will prevent you from navigating in some apps and/or from using some apps (e.g. call someone)

There also should be a setting (or a standard value) for setting up the invisibility of the message notification after hiding it/ swiping it up.

UPDATE 28/06/17

Following on from the meeting

Notifications are not currently dismissable. This can get very frustrating when wanting to use that part of the screen, as you have to wait for the notification to go away. Having a way to dismiss them (ie. swiping them away), would be highly appreciated.

There would be two easy ways avoiding it: Disabling internet connection for a while or to cancel facebook and whatsapp/Mitäkuuluu registration ;) Ok, this doesn't help you when I get spammed I'd delete those accounts but I vote for your request because there is nothing wrong with a setting (eg in the settings menu) to just hide those inc messages.

@NuklearFart I don't want to deactivate my messaging apps and this is not just about messaging but also about sms and all other kinds of notifications. A smartphone should be still fully usable if you get message notifications and Jolla has to compensate the fact of a missing status bar and this is a suggestion how this hiccup could be solved. :)

Let me list some cases in which notifications are a big PITA.

  • When driving and running Waze, if I open the launcher Waze will issue a notification covering the first line of apps preventing their launch. (This is true in general in any case but this is especially annoying since every time I want to launch an app from Waze I have to wait for the notification to go away.)
  • When driving and running Waze, similarly, if I switch to the events view Waze will issue a notification covering the first row of buttons including the often critical one to enable/disable WiFi.
  • When driving and running Waze, finally, if a notification pops up (e. g. new mail) it will cover driving directions shown on the top of the screen. Please note that these three issues have serious safety implications because they take attention away from the road.

This feature has been added with Sailfish OS 2.1.4.x.

The notification banners can now be swiped away with a horizontal flick.

I'll advertise this dismissing of info banners also over here in case it helps somebody. First of all, info banners are also notifications but these are one liners and do not trigger actions. For example "Charging...", "Connected", and "Developer mode in use" are info banners just to name few. These can be dismissed by tapping on top of them.

The "Disconnect charger" one is especially deadly because it covers the battery charge status just after you disconnected the phone from the charger.

I just uploaded a patch for dismissing and removing notification by swiping on Openrepos. Feel free to try it: https://openrepos.net/content/ingvix/patch-swipe-notifications-dismiss-remove
