Hello from the UK.

I'm been using the GiffGaff network for a couple of years on my Android and iDevices. They're an MVNO piggy backing off the O2 UK network.

I recently activated a new GiffGaff SIM, which I tested on my Android Nexus 5 and it works perfectly on GiffGaff. Connects to the cellular network, gets 3G, etc. Then I put the same SIM in my Jolla and it refuses to connect to GiffGaff. I took my other GiffGaff SIM out of my Nexus 5 and tried that in the Jolla and that too didn't connect to the network. I've since tried my wife's O2 SIM card in my Jolla and that works OK. So two GiffGaff SIM's have not worked so far in the Jolla.

I set the network selection to manual and when I do that I can see O2 UK listed and when I tap it I get error "Oops, cannot connect to network". When I have network selection set to auto then Sailfish just does nothing, as it it does not select any cellular network at all.

I have obviously rebooted the Jolla since inserting the GiffGaff SIM and I have set the APN correctly.

I've pinged a message to a GiffGaff user with the userID richardski on the GiffGaff community support forum as apparently he also has a Jolla and has got it working on GiffGaff but in the mean time I thought I'd post here to see if anyone can help me out.

Is it a 4G compatible SIM card? We are many to have an unusable SIM card working with 1.0.5.16 where it worked perfectly in previous versions. It would seem it could be caused by some SIM cards which could use 4G networks and can't connect. I don't know if you can try a 2G/3G only SIM card for testing or try to disable 4G network in your carrier customer area if you have this option. Let us know the result on the relative opened topic https://together.jolla.com/question/38635/sim-card-not-detected-anymore-in-10516/

My Jolla was using Giffgaff with absolutely no problem. It's no good changing the settings of the existing O2 connection, you need to create a new APN for Giffgaff with the correct information. Yes, Giffgaff does run off the back of O2, but a new APN is required. (I'm assuming you altered the existing O2 APN).

I used these settings;

Name - giffgaff

APN - giffgaff.com

Proxy - 193.113.200.195

Port - 8080

Username - giffgaff

Password - password

Server - http://mmsc.mediamessaging.co.uk:8002

MMSC - http://mmsc.mediamessaging.co.uk:8002

MMS proxy - 193.113.200.195

MMS port - 8080

MCC - 234

MNC - 10

So.... I tried an old 3G SIM and it works. It finds the GiffGaff network and connects. When I try the new 4G SIM it fails to register on the network even though i have 3G network preferred set in my network settings. I guess the June update will fix this.
