I almost need no android apps anymore. but lately i started to use carsharing here in germany. There are 2 big ones drive now and car2go. Both have android apps with maps to find cars to use. i can install both of them and both start for a short moment, then crashing with a short time appearing error message: "car2go unfotunately has been ended" ( translated from german). it would be really cool if they would work!

Since they use maps, might that be Google Maps? In that case they probably require Google's Play Services. There are guides here to install those. If you do mind your privacy and shun Google's stuff (you got a Jolla after all) the better option would be to urge them to use alternative mapping, like OpenStreetMap.

Many thanks @Fuzzillogic you gave me a hint to solve this problem. I have google play store installed. I installed both apps through it. What I tried now was to install both google maps engine and google maps. After both the apps still didnt work. Then I deleted and reinstalled them and now they work. :) I am not sure if it was because of installing one of those map apps but what else shall it be.

Both apps (drivenow and car2go) also seem to use the same framework or backend (as you supposed) because they work and look like identically.

Thank you again. I hope this maybe hels others too.

EDIT 06.06.2014: I was a little bit too fast with beeing happy over a complete success. Car2Go seems to work completely (I don't have an account there yet to say for sure), but DriveNow crashes after some seconds if I have GPS activates or if deactivates after I try to log in.

Someone there with an idea or did someone got it to work?

The car2go app crashes after log-in, at least when there's no Google services installed.

Edit: Crashing stopped after logging in on the iPhone app on my work phone.

I couldn't get the car2go or DriveNow apps to work either, but there is an app called "MeMobility" which supports both services and seems to work fine, more or less (it sometimes hangs when reserving a car, the car will be reserved, but there is no feedback in the app)

Here comes very good news ! There is a new version of drivenow which can open the car out of the app. I tried it and it now completely works on jolla. :)

There is a new car2go version as well (since last week or so), this one seems to work fine on the jolla.

CLR64, did you install google maps? Without it, there seems to be no map view in drivenow. How did you solve this?

Hi, I installed moovel - which asks also for Google maps but displays the location and condition of the car at least. So, if you know your city, you have access. It also crashes from time to time - but at least is useable, not like App car2go (w/o Google Play Service) ... Don't click "install google..." else it crashes instantly.

In case you live in Munich (München) I can recommend the app of Munich public transport "MVG Fahrinfo". Works fine for finding and reservation of DriveNow BMW/Mini and other car sharing organisations and you don't need to install any Google software. Nevertheless I don't know about other cities.

Hey, I recently got to work both apps on my Jolla with Sailfish 1.1.2.16 and used them successfully to find, reserve, book and even remotely open the desired car in Berlin.

First I used this link to install Google Play, then installed "car2go" and "drivenow".To be sure everything went fine do not forgive to run following command as superuser:

systemctl restart aliendalvik.service

Or simply reboot your device.

Both apps depend on the "Google Play Services", which can be installed using Google Play.A link is provided by both of the apps.

Voilà!
