There is kickstarter, indiegogo and more. Why not set up crowdfunding for Sailfish development?

Because people already paid for Sailfish.

A swype-like keyboard would nevertheless be a good thing. Other improvements could also be added this way. Just imagine getting a native app for free because crowdfunding made it happen. Even if it would take money to create the app it could still be added to the jolla store as a free (gratis) app.

Devs can ask for crowdfunding. The only thing jolla can do is advertise it a bit ie through twitter or facebook or whatever.

We already had a campaing for porting a Bitcoin wallet that failed. With paid apps coming devs will probably get more active. I hope at least. There are many apps that SF OS "needs".

@ApB - True. ...and it would be nice to have an unlike solution to that situation. A lot of apps are only created to make money, not to make life easier.

Well making money makes life easier for the one making them :P And its up to the individual to decide how he is going to get money. Even if others don't like the way he makes them. Crowdfunding is a solution, through the shop is another, adds, maybe an annual contest supported by jolla or the community (ie community collects a sum best app gets it) for a one time prize, a bounty etc etc. Many ways.

We are in a weird state right now where most devs are of the one man band/hackish type and the platform is not big enough to attract teams of devs that will write awesome apps. As i said i hope things will change. There are many type of apps the platform needs.

With Jolla being based in Finland, the crowdfunding operation would need to comply to Finnish law, and at the current state that makes it complicated. IANAL, but as I understood the issue, basically with a non-charity fund collection the only way to make it legal is to have a very defined target so that essentially it's designed as a pre-order to buy a certain product (hardware or software).

Would it be possible to reward a bounty to the programmer/team that completes a certain chore? I am hoping to keep as much as much of the software opensourced but even universities are turning into secret thinktanks these days so yes, there is a problem. The image i had in my head as i typed the question was that of a street musician (with an eye patch and a parrot) singing on the street corner with a hat on the concrete.
