Sudden reboots also on my phone, but different case! After entering PIN code, phone reboots sometimes. It still looks like a problem caused by 2G.Very disapointed now, because I expected this is fixed after update :(

I just experienced the same problem, i.e. phone shutdown suddenly. The first time, I've started the phone by pressing the lock screen button. An hour later, and while I pressed the send button on an SMS, the phone shutdown again. Trying to start the phone was repeatedly shutting down. I did manage to start phone in stable mode after removing the battery. SMS was in sending mode. I never had this problem before. The phone runs the latest update (09/06). I've also disabled 4G recomposed SMS and it was sent without problems. Another thing I noticed is that battery level drops faster(?) after the upgrade, I might be wrong but my feeling is that consumption is increased. My battery level was around 72% when I experienced this problem.

Since I upgraded to 1.0.7.16 yesterday I'm seeing random reboots as well, but so far only in Android apps (Waze in particular). I haven't seen seen any Sailfish app cause a reboot so far, so my issue might be different from what you are seeing.

Same here, 1.0.7.16 just rebooted two times in a row. Both times happened when launching FB (Version 12.0.0.0.0).

Same here, 1.0.7.16.

Sounds like a duplicate of https://together.jolla.com/question/7144/jolla-randomly-shuts-down-10516/ and should be closed? For me the unexpected random reboots never disappeared whatever I was doing. Even the fold a paper hint did not work. Sounds like a massive warranty issue...

i do mot think it is a hw problem, my phone has never done a repetitive reboots, it seems like am exposed bug to me, no idea how is triggered. does it leave a trace in logs?

For me, folding a piece of paper and sticking it under the battery, as suggested in thread liked to above, resolved the issue. Until update 1.0.7.16. Now I've had a couple of reboots in a couple of days again. Maby i need a thicker piece of paper...

plipp ( 2014-06-13 10:37:17 +0300 )edit

I had so many shutdowns, reboots, overheat warnings in all versions, but it seems different between OS versions, some versions are almost stable, some (like this new one) very unstable, so I do not think it is a hw problem, or at least not only that.

pellen ( 2014-06-13 17:02:41 +0300 )edit

The duplicate mentions removing the battery for at least 10 minutes. That worked for me.

Yes, should't we close this, as there is already a topic about that?

Same thing here (1.0.7.16) Put jolla to my pocket. Suddenly! bzzz bzzz, oh! me thinking "a new mail, hurray!". But no, Screen was displaying charge screen (when off) - the cable and the thunder in the box - and shortly afterwards rebooted... happened couple of times so far, also before update to 1.0.7.16...

I agree with you, yes, damaged charger, water damage, production error etc. are all problems to encounter. Only funny thing is, that it happens after last update, not before. And just to mention this, i do not know the most of you here, but i assume for a moment, that most of the users of jolla are computer science/it affine users. So they would go through their stuff before writing a comment here, just as i did. So: damaged charger - no water damate - no production error? - who knows, activated after last update of the OS? - hmm(!?)

However, I will do follow your advice though and write this all down to the care. We will see. At the moment the over 300 Euros hardware/sowtware is UNUSABLE: - restart while dialing a number or while in the conversation - this happens on important client call - restart while only one (does not matter which one) app on, - random restart during the day - unable to call a number after this random restart, have to restart again

TLD;R: Contact care if you have those kind of problems.

Stating the basics here: if you have problems with your device and you suspect something is wrong with it, first step to be on recovery for your device is to start a conversation with Jolla Care. 100 people with one symptom might be 100 different causes in practice and hence they need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. One user might have a faulty charger, while the other one has water damage, or another has a production error - and all might cause similar symptoms. You cannot assess this without going through a conversation with care to select the right way forward.

Reason for this is also for you to exercise your rights, http://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/shopping/shopping-abroad/guarantees/index_en.htm - and the very first step you need to do is contact customer care, state what's wrong with your device and it can then be taken forward to repair, replace, advise or whatever else needs to be done. The sooner you do this, the better.

As it's not a single case I think it would be fair to hear what is the problem in public or am I wrong?

I have found, in all versions including the current one, that if I use the phone without other half there are never any reboots. When the other half is on it reboots ridiculously often, like with a few minutes between when I use it heavily. The weird things, that I have mentioned in similar answers in the past, is that I removed the NFC months ago, so that is not the problem. It's like just having the plastic shell in place makes the phone unstable, or maybe it is because when I don't have that my hand presses against something (the battery?) that makes the phone not crash (or not overheat?). Did anyone else experience this?

In the 1-2 OS versions before the current one, instead of instant reboots (like in current and older versions) I got many warnings about phone overheating, sometimes followed by the phone shutting down. Not that it was always very warm, but sometimes it was. Not sure if overheating is the problem now as well, but I have not seen that warning since the upgrade, but sometimes when it reboots it is very hot.

EDIT: Just now I managed to make it reboot twice with the other half off (after having two or three reboots with it on). Passing the PIN check then immediately launching the Opera Mobile app and trying to select some link seems to be a good way to reboot it. Overall doing things too fast, like swiping around and launching and/or exiting apps (native or android) seems to be a good way to reproduce the reboots. Still overall not having the other half on seems to be an almost perfect workaround for me.

As written before I also had this problem until yesterday: On opening applications which apparently make intensive use of internet connections (i.e. Browser, Mail, Android Twitter App, Android Facebook App) the phone suddenly rebooted. Shutting down the phone, removing battery, waiting some minutes and restarting it didn't help (as suggested by other users).

Yesterday I also removed both my SIM card and the SD card and re-inserted them - since then the phone works stable not matter which application I'm opening or using.

For me it seems that this problem is caused by communication issues between phone and SIM card and removing it and putting it in again cleaned the contacts. I already used the same card with my Nokia N9 and sometimes I had to re-enter my PIN, with my Jolla and the first Sailfish releases I saw the same effect. Could it be that the OS is not robust enough against communication problems between phone and SIM card?

I had 3 reboot now i think it's come from :

a battery usage issue ! my battery was < 25 %

a lost of wifi signal comes when i'm moving and lost wifi signal.

remove and replace battery seems to work, i've read about plastic foul to maintain battery but did not try this ...

Most reboot comes when battery comes low < 25 % and when lost of signal (GSM or Wifi)

As other posters have indicated I believe there are multiple issues here. As far as I can tell there is an issue in 1.0.7.16 which did not exist before or which was harder to trigger on previous releases. As I commented above, I tried adding the piece of paper (which was hard to put in place since the battery seems to have a very tight fit on my Jolla). After that the random reboots stopped compeletely. I have since removed the piece of paper, and a week ago, I also enabled 4G support again, so my conclusion is that it was in fact the cold reboot and the temporary removal of the battery that caused it, as I have not had any random reboot in nearly 14 days, and at least 20 within the first 24 hours after I upgraded to 1.0.7.16.

Hi all. I must to say that my phone become totally unusable, after last update! my story is next... I am from Bosnia, and I got my Jolla in february ( purchased in DNA shop, in Finland ). First 3 update all pass good, after 4 update I got first reboots, but, only one time. Than come update 5, couple of reboots in 20 days, but nothing special. I reset my phone to factory default and reboots gone, I continue to using my phone normally with all possible apps from Jolla store, android and openRepos, than become last update, and only first 24 h after update I not have reboots, after that every fk day I had reboots, worse is that when this happens, phone turns on and of from 3 - 7 times, until it become usable again. I try to track what is causing the problem, but no rules for me. yesterday I reset my phone again to factory default, and installed only 20 apps from Jolla store, native apps, nothing else. Today I used my phone for calling 4 times, and answer on 1 call, I used browser to check football result, (max. 2 min.) and I got 2 msg. I replay on 1 msg, and when I try to replay on second one, phone reboot again, 4 times until became usable again, in that moments my battery level is 88% so I really dont know what is happening and what causes this abnormal rebooting. I try almost everything, but no luck for me. I never used developer mode, after last reset I installed only basic application, nothing special, and I do not even use the phone so much. I like my .Jolla because is different from others phones, but after this problem I dont know what to do. I cant use it more, like my primary phone. I just wanna to say others who have this problem, that resetting phone to factory default wont help, and that problem is not related with any apps, because I read that people speaking about browser or some android apps.

@sada11 Have you tried the "paper under battery" trick? Helps in many cases.

Sorry to hear your problem. Try remove your pattery and keep it separately about 15min and install little paper to bottom of the battery, then it will be tight fit and you do not loose battery connection. I found out, that SIM can cause reboots, so check your sim (i did have cutted old sim). With the new sim, no reboots.

I have Shutdown problem with newest update (~4x)... It can be shutdown when i use it. Like you bull your battery off. No led no nothing... When i try to turn it back on.. it wount turn on. Only Jolla logo is on and then black screen.. When i press power button again, it will flash red led. Only way to fix this is bull battery off.. But when i remove battery "paper fix" it's not shutdown since! :O maybe only luck? Hope, you can get your Jolla to working again :)

Makeclick ( 2014-06-24 07:37:45 +0300 )edit

Ty guys for answer. I dont know how to "press thanks" on this forum, :) like it work on maemo.org...

@zlatko. I try trick with paper first, but not help, first time. Yesterday I decide to put "more" paper under battery, and from that moment still not have reboots :) maybe is only luck, and maybe reboots are gone, I will test and put answer again here...

@Makeclick. Thx for solution about cut SIM card. I will ask from my provider new SIM card, even if trick with "more"paper helped me.

I have experienced multiple reboots daily since a week of so. I previously thought it might be due to switching from 3G to WiFi and vice versa. Especially in cases where there are wireless networks in sight which I have been using but whose password has been changed in between.

Another theory was that the phone would lose connection due to weak 4G coverage. My mobile plan does not include 4G so I thought I should change 3G to the preferred connection. For a while the phone was fine, until in the evening the rebooting started. The phone had been in my jacket's pocket for about two hours when I found this out.

Two or three reboots and we got back home (we were away when the above happened). My Jolla was working fine again in our home WiFi, when the battery indicator suddenly dropped ftom 72% to 2% and the phone shut down. After ten or so minutes battery removed, I put the thing back together again and connected it to the charger. Surprise: now there was 71% left.

It may well be problems with battery connection, but I'm not buing the "paper under the battery" trick as a remedy. Only a temporary solution. And what bothers me is how did this start only after the latest firmware update? Or to be more precise, I think I installed an update to the Android platform support. Soon after these my previously almost flawless Jolla became an unpredictable piece of... well, I'm not willing to say anything too rude about it.. I'm confident that these problems wil be solved quickly, when we users provide enough information for the Jolla team to nail down the problem and fix it.

like I say in my previous post, trick with a thicker layer of paper helped in my case, but that is not only what I do. I enable developer mode, first time on my device, I dont know is that have something with this reboots,?but... now 6 days since my last reboots :)

sada11 ( 2014-06-30 01:18:29 +0300 )edit

I activated the developer mode for a while when I got the phone. Firmware was still labeled as beta that time. Perhaps I'll try enabling it again. My device seems to work OK in the mornings, but in the afternoon it mystically starts rebooting.

And well, hmm... I still wonder how software updates can affect physical battery connection? Maybe reading the battery status fails under some circumstances.

JuhaP ( 2014-06-30 10:30:05 +0300 )edit

No reboots since my previous comment. Did nothing. A miracle, silent update - or a solved carrier issue.?

JuhaP ( 2014-07-01 19:56:28 +0300 )edit

I'm also getting multiple reboots since the latest upgrade. Here's what I experienced again today: - battery at about 80% - got a couple of reboots early in the morning - worked fine for a couple of hours - started rebooting forever

The only way to stop the rebooting cycle is to connect the battery charger.

Never had this kind of problems before 1.0.7.16.

finnico ( 2014-07-03 16:04:24 +0300 )edit

It happened again last Thursday while travelling by car. Two or three times, then again working fine now.

Hi all, I had reboots when i entered a correct PIN. I fix it simply removing the battery. It seems that reboot didn't solve the problem it was made for.
