Dear developers,

it is nice to have folders in launcher to sort apps now (1.0.7.16). Therefore thank you!

But why behaves UI completely different from other menus? Why is there no indicator at the top? And why is it not possible to swipe from left to right to leave folder? (Tapping on a free place to leave is old maemo style) Maybe there is a reason for that, but for me it is a bit confusing!

By the way, is nobody responsible for a collaborate design and intuitiv handling at sailfish labs?

That seems a bit strange, I was also expecting "the standard" swipe-from-left-to-right behaviour.

I also caught myself a couple of times trying to swipe away the folder view.

I still think this idea would be the best way to implement folders in the launcher.

I have to bring this issue back to front, because it is still relevant, even more in Sailfish OS 2.0.

In the old UI, there was the possibility to go back from folder view to the main app grid by an edge swipe. This was comfortable, but still inconsistent. Now with the new 2.0 UI this is not possible any more, so the only way to return is tapping on an empty space.

Currently there are two suggestions to resolve this issue:

  • Treat the folder view as a subpage, and return to the main grid by a side swipe. That's what @SaimenSays suggested.
  • Handle the app folders like the alphabetical groups in the contacts app: If you tap a folder, the whole menu expands and the apps in the folder are shown. This was suggested by @mosen here.

I would prefer the second solution, but it must be ensured that moving apps to other positions or folders still is an easy task then.

Yes, either one of those would be perfect! The first one is maybe easier since it would be a lot like the current view.

I would also move folder options (name and picture) under pulley menu and seperate page. Now you just tap the icon/text in the folder view to edit it which is not very easy to figure out in my opinion. If there were a pulley menu it would be logical that the options page is there.

Side swipe would go back to the app grid and a swipe from the edge back to home.

At Openrepos there is the Launcher combined patch package from @coderus, which gives the launcher the subpage functionality by default (and lets you customize the launcher further). By now this is a good workaround.

Just swipe from the side (like minimizing app) and you will have new sailfish style ;)

But this not correct behavior! I dont want to close the launcher app. I want to go one level up, and this has not to be done by swipe not from the corner. A small thing, but it does not behave as it should!

This doesn't work any more in the Sailfish 2.0 UI. Anyway, this is an inconsistent behavior.
