Opening an URL no longer opens a new tab since 1.0.7.16 [released]
When I was clicking a link in Tweetian, with Sailfish version 1.0.5.16 and before, it opened a new tab in the browser, which I think should be the normal behaviour.
But when I do the same with any new OS version (since 1.0.7.16) the url is opened in the last opened tab so you loose the loaded page. With this behaviour tabs are useless to me.
update: released with SFOSv2.0.2.51
indeed. i think it is bug new update for next new hotfix.
sa.rasputin ( 2014-06-10 21:22:59 +0200 )editI, too, prefer the pre-1.0.7.16-behaviour of the Jolla Browser, that is:
Jolla Browser not yet opened:
any links triggering the Browser to open opens in/over whatever was there before (if all tabs were closed, before the Browser was closed, this opens a new tab and is the only tab opened)
Jolla Browser is opened, and minimised to Cover on Home screen:
any links triggering the Browser to open opens a new tab
if the Jolla Browser is closed, all tabs are preserved;
it's easy to use the Pulley option Close all tabs, and it's better that the previous tabs are preserved in cases of involuntary closings
(presumable memory hog)
This way, I could have the Browser opened, while simultaneously checking my Twitter feed and opening interesting links and basically "saving them for later"; if the link I opened wasn't something I wanted to save for later, I just closed the Browser – the next link I'd open would open _over_ that last link – and if I wanted to save it for later, I just left the Browser minimised, forcing the next link to open in a new tab.
(This comment was added right after the 1.0.8.19 release, which kept the Browser behaviour introduced in 1.0.7.16 – i.e. everything opens in the same tab, user must manually open a new tab (_and_ load a page in it) to force the next link to open in another (that manually opened) tab.)
(addendum: Of course I still want the "remembers position, and doesn't reload tab content"-parts of the 1.0.7.16 update, though.)
phle ( 2014-07-14 22:22:05 +0200 )editAdded "since" to question title and description to make the question better reflect also the later and current versions of the SailfishOS. Hope it's ok?
foss4ever ( 2015-01-05 02:36:55 +0200 )editYes it is, thank you to have done it.
Ithier ( 2015-01-09 00:46:49 +0200 )editThis current behaviour is soooo irritating! Please, Jolla, make this at least as an option ("Open external links in a new tab") ?
