Googles Project Ara sounds cool, but people don't want to sacrifice the performance of their phone. But since ordering spare parts and repairing phones by yourself is made difficult by other phone manufacturers, Jolla should consider going in the opposite direction: to sell screens, camera covers, batteries etc. on the Jolla Store so people can extend the life of their product. Encourage people to do so by offering repair manuals and tools. While other manufactures make their phones crappy intentionally to assure enough profit, Jolla could gather recognition by being a reliable, modable, do-it-yourself and do-it-together phone.

This is the spirit we need. Since changing some basic parts (of anything) isn't a hard job if you can hold a screwdriver and have enough patience. With some references and instructions these kind of people is the end of this era of consuming. I trust that Jolla is fresh thinker enough to see this. Repair shops still have warranty service and customers that do want things done by professionals.

Undersigned has worked years in different kind of electronic and mechanic repair shops and hate to see good stuff thrown away because "so it's almost the price if I buy a new one".

Edit: In addition it's true that any company would like to see their products sold more because they are too expensive to repair by professional. But companies should see that they can sell spare parts directly to consumers with fair profit. Instead of the fact that repair shops and retail always want all parts cheaper to add their own profit and work expenses.

In addition it makes me stick to a device when I can buy a new battery - it lasts longer then and I have more motivation to stick to this ecosystem.

I once had an idea for a FrankenHalf: TOH which would basically be a "motherboard" for other components that you could stick in there: bigger storage, memory, accessories etc. That might be cool, and even doable from outside Jolla, who clearly have enough work as it is :)
