Security code recovery [answered]
Hi,
simple question: How can the security code be changed without knowledge of the former one? Any programmatic way to get this done?
Is the code located on SIM or phone memory?
Thanks in advance
We have moved to a new Sailfish OS Forum. Please start new discussions there.

Jolla care can reflash the device which erases devicelock code. We are not offering solution to change it without knowing it first (that would be bad for security, if if someone steals your device he cannot easily change it).
In coming updates if/when remotesecurity feature is introduced, you can change your lock code from web ui. (But account setup requires you to know the current lockcode).
I don't even know if I ever set up a lock code frankly. But if I push the clear button, it asks me for a code. Can you please acknowledge that the prompt only shows up when a security code has actually been set up?
Reflashing as the only option is rather bad news (and particularly having to send it around the world, most probably for a number of weeks - ok, I could do a device reset, but that wouldn't surely wipe everything).
Nevertheless, being constantly in danger of unintentionally locking the device by a wrong gesture makes me kind of nervous. Can you please make a more practicable and secure way of resetting the code available? Thanks.

True that factory reset also clears the lockcode, but factory reset dialog asks for current code before it allows factory reset. So my advice would be that you try to remember and try some 5-10 digit codes that you would usually use.

But still, all options you mentioned to reset the code require the code, which is kind of paradoxical. The only exception is sending it to Jolla Care, yet in an unreset state (as resetting needs the code as well).
This doesn't sound like a particularly secure procedure to me, as it doesn't prevent Jolla Care and persons having direct hardware access from accessing personal data, I suppose. I'm not exceptionally paranoid, and you're probably all nice people, but I don't want you to have access to my data.
As said, it might be adequate to find a better solution to this problem. Could you please consider putting this on your design agenda?
Thanks.

I've been updating Sailfish and done a couple of time recovery to factory settings and phone has never asked any codes, but now when I added wife's simcard it started asking that. 100% sure that didn't set that a month ago when did last time factory reset. Has this issue came now with newest systemupdate?
